July 20, 20169 yr Three days of yard sales....A few smaller tools, and big tool box, and a bit of wood. Was a busy boy over the weekend.. That short one is 4' long....4/4 Walnut, long one is 8/4 and is 7' long...dollar each.... The walnut was from Sunday, the next pile of rust was Friday's $7 haul..but wait...there was also a Saturday sale or two... This was from just two sales that day.....the eggbeater was $3 the tool box was $13, counting what was in it..... Just a tease... There was a $2 pair of visegrips, straight jaws, and another pair of Yankee drivers for $1 each....tool box was $10. So, I wound up with a bit of rough sawn walnut, a Fulton #3 plane, an eggbeater, and three braces.....and.. A pair of pipe wrenches were in the bottom of the box That tape measure, a few pliers, and some weird things.. And for those braces? The short ones are a 16 size, the long one is an 11.... A few screwdrivers, there was a few plastic handled things, but I prefer the wood handles Sorry, these were the only chisels in the box.....there was a few wrenches, as well... Smallest size was a 5/8", I think. The braces? This is after a good cleaning. Small is an 8" sweep, the other two are 10" sweeps. The non-ratcheting one is a Millers Falls No.22 Not sure about the other two...yet Ever hear of Granlt Tool Comp. of New York Germany? needs a fuller restore, though. Not too bad a weekend? Just over $20 for the tools, and $2 for the wood. The bottom of the tool box had a sales flyer.....Rinks Department Stores was having a Labor Day sale...in September of 1982.... As for those Yankee drivers? There is a HUGE No.131A that I could use as a walking stick, a pair of No. 130A drivers, and a No.135 The 131 was...$3 Couple more sales...next weekend...
July 20, 20169 yr Awesome haul Steve! I love them all but I really like those wood handled piped wrenches, I have a couple myself and I have always loved the mix of a tool that is made for joining metal pipe, with wood handles, just a need mix of mediums. And the prices? My gosh, you are the bandit!
July 20, 20169 yr Author There was a few more things down in the bottom of the box....Quite a few sockets...that use a hex drive instead of a square drive ratchet.. The four Yankees now all have a bit to use. Went and reground a couple long hex-drive phillips bits to fit into the two #130A s.... There was a "Champion" brand 16oz claw hammer, and an unknown small ball pean hammer Along with that wood handled pipe wrench, there was a slightly different wrench That be leather washers for the handle. Methinks that the "plumber" had to beat on the handle a few times. That tape measure is a 12' one. Along with the Lufkin folder rule. A box of extra long pop rivets, and a blister pack of "backer plates" to use with them. There is a"spare" handle for the ball pean hammer. Just in case. The tape measure holster was dry rotted and was tossed. There was also 4 files, two with handles. Instead of ferrels, they used a wire wrap to secure the handles. That hand plane came up out of a cellar where i picked the tool box. Rear handle was...shot. rest wasn't too hateful. Simple Green to kill the mold on it. After a good cleaning, and a spare tote installed. Not too bad for $1? Iron is stamped as FULTON Warranteed, plane is a #3 size. Note the front knob's bottom edge? This was made by Sargent. There was a few smaller twist drill bits, that needed a soak to clean up. Still looking for ideas on HOW to make use of that Walnut....hate to cut it down right now, but it is too big to sit around in the shop, projectless. Plank, the 4/4 shorty one, is 12" wide at the NARROW end, then flairs out. One live edge, one sawn edge. May saw it down the middle, as there is a split there, and a bit of a cup going on. Yep, there are a few more sales this coming weekend......stay tuned...
July 21, 20169 yr Author Well, just had to go out and about this morning, as the game is still a-foot! Large Tent sale just south of town.....Three tents full of...stuff. I had taken a part back to Autozone and had a refund to spend....a whopping $18 Bits were a buck a piece, chisel was a fiver. Chisel is a 1/2" T H Witherby. Bits range between 4/16" and 18/16" with a couple duplicates. Look to be irwins. Fellow will soon have these same three tents set up at the tractor Fest labor day weekend in West Liberty, OH. Told the fellow I'd see him there....again. Not too bad a morning?
July 23, 20169 yr Author Oh, BTW....there was a box inside that old metal tool box.....has a yellow label on one end.. Stanley No. 904 4" T hinge Light Steel 1 dozen pairs Box has seen better days.... I only counted 10 hinges, the old boy must have used a few. Didn't find any screws, nor does the box say anything about them. More treasures from that Treasure Chest....
September 25, 20196 yr bobbejaan spanner The old wood handled piped wrenches was called stillson pipe wrench's in my day.... The Stillson name is that of the original patent holder, who licensed the design to a number of manufacturers. Stillson (1869-1899)
