Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers! July 18, 2016

Well Good Monday Morning Patriot Woodworkers!

What happened in your shops over the weekend? What did you make, how did you make it, and what new techniques did you discover, or what old techniques have you perfected?

Please share your weekend stories here!

For me, my son and I spent the weekend in the shop and built a chair jig, the chair jig is used to drill the holes at the correct angles of the chair posts for the side rungs to be inserted into. Here is our chair jig.

This jig sits on the Drill Press table with the chair ladder back assembly laying across it, and then the holes can be drilled in the rear posts.

I also launched into tool building mode by building an ash mallet.

Downloads

I also uploaded a new (old) fun plan for you all over the weekend. It's a Bronc busting teeter-totter. You can download that plan at Bronco Teeter-Totter. It's a great project for the kids in your life.

Wiki

I am still working on templates for our wiki guests to use as they create their research projects on the many facets of woodworking. We also need your help, please see Machinery Categories, and Hand Tools Categories for your input and suggestions, we could sure use your wisdom and knowledge!

Books

If you are interested in tool making and diving into being a plane maker, I found a wonderful book that I ordered last night from David Finck, Making and Mastering Wood Planes.

I am interested in plane making, after making my Ash Mallet, the satisfaction of making my own tools has grown in me over the weekend and I am excited to get my new book in the mail soon.

So that is it folks, how about you all, what's on your plate for the week ahead, and what did you do over the weekend past!

Nice jig and mallets. Especially being able to spend the time with your son.

Nice sine plane you guys are building, there. And that's a fine looking sander, too.

Your big ash mallet will serve you well, I'm sure. It's really a thing of beauty. Almost too nice to use.

Doing the final prep for a show next week.  Also, going to build a book case for my daughter.

It was a wonderful weekend Allen, and by the way, thanks for correcting the date on the title! Always looking out you are!

Thanks Gene, the sander is a handsome one aint he? Got his looks from mama, sure as heck wasn't from me.

You know I had a feeling that after I made my mallet, I may have a hard time using it and dinging it up, but naw, I tried it out a few times already and I love it, I am ready to bang against whatever needs banging.

I need to get started on a special cutting board and a small table for on the deck.

Lew, what is special about the cutting board? Different woods, different shape, or just special because of where it it going to end up?

Nice Ron! Are you all stocked up Ron? Do you have enough for the masses?

I think so John but it would be nice to sell out.  This show's proceeds are going to a very special cause.  My new AR15.

I'm going to attempt an optical illusion board. All straight/parallel/perpendicular lines but they look curved. Maple and walnut.

I've seen that done with wood Lew, I love those! Can't wait to see your project materialize. Please share!

Making Cutting Boards, Repairing a Headboard, making a paddle for a teacher and working on the shop addition in my spare time.

Be sure to put holes in the paddle.  Must be decorative.  Liberals won't let teachers paddle anymore.
