July 4, 201610 yr Got a bit bored, sitting around. Could here a lot of fireworks going off...somewhere. Took a few things to the shop....the camera, the "new" $1 tripod for it ( yard sale find) the Stanley #45 and a couple cutters.. Set up the 45 to do match work. With just two cutters, it is suppose to cut matching Tongue & Groove joints....Had some scrap pine, about 3/4" thick. Made a pair of panels,,,,, First cutter to set up, the 3/16" match cutter. Supposed to cut the tongue with it. Sliding stock sits behind the left side of the cutter, fence sits below the cutter...looks about like this.. Although the 45 have a bunch of depth stop all over it, the cutter has it's own. Trick is to set things up right in the center of the board Might have had it set a bit too deep. Had to keep unclogging it from all the shavings. Left hand push the fence against the board, right hand to push the plane along. Once the shaving stop piling out of there... Not too bad? Next, the hard part of all of this...ploughing the groove to match. Removed the sliding stock, and the fence. Removed the 3/16" match cutter, replace with a 3/16" plough cutter. Cutter is too narrow for both skates, so leave the slider off. Reinstall the fence, and try to set the cutter right dead center on the edge of the board.....missed it by a blonde hair. stacked the two boards after ploughing a groove...had to widen it a bit, was off a hair to one side. Groove is a bit wider than the tongue, better luck next time, I guess. Now, there is a corner joint I use in case work......maybe try it out with this plane set up? Sooo, marked out where the tongue would fit, and adjusted the cut a hair. Ploughed a groove ( much like a groove for a drawer bottom) then test fit it up.. Pull it tight during a glue up, instant corner post. It even came out square.. The board these two came from had a slight cup to them. Note the joint? I think I am going to like this plane....have to try out some other ways to use this thing...
