Friday, June 3rd, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

Getting ready to head out for First Fridays Florence. Hard to believe it is already June but time sure seems to be flying by. I've been retired two months already and it seems like, well two months and it is AWESOME!!!!

So I spent this morning cleaning out a path to get my new 24" Grizzly Sander into the shop. I had my sanding table in front of the garage door, so everything had to get moved. Shop is now a bigger mess than normal.

So I got a path cleared and the UPS driver helped me to get it in the shop.

Weights in at about 490 lbs but it is in the door and the door can be closed.

I've got a bit of wiring to do for another 220 outlet in the shop. I guess it will be sometime next week before I have it up and running in the shop like I want it. I'm just glad that it is here and in the shop. I ordered it on Tuesday and it arrived here today. That was some quick service!

I got a bit of maintenance on the band saw this week. Had to replace both tires and put a new blade on. The tires went on pretty easy and the blade was a normal process.

So I'll be trying to put the shop back together this weekend and get ready to wire up the new outlet for the sander.

What is on your agenda this weekend? We here at TPW love to hear all about your projects and see what you are working on. Post those pictures and share your weekend plans with us.

We're in prep mode.  Dorothy and I will be leaving soon for the sunny (hot) climes of Nevada and California to see the Worsham gang.  Actually, I am in the middle of building two walnut folding wine tables too.

I think I'll just spend the weekend drooling over the picture of your new sander :D

Hang on Lew and I'll put up a picture of it out of the box!!!

Beth was even excited it was here. Wanted to know if we were going to get it going today!

Another UPS truck arrived about 45 minutes after the sander with the box of sandpaper I ordered. Got to put a plug on the cord and I'll give it a try.

We picked up my wife's mom from the airport yesterday. What a mess! If you folks ever get near Los Angeles International, well, don't get near it! We had my mother-n-law fly in from Panama to LAX because of the cost savings over San Diego, typically we fly her in to San Diego, but for some reason we had a lapse of sanity and took her into LAX. The savings aint worth it! We left at 2pm and got back at 9pm mainly because of blistering traffic and accidents, and a roadside fire on the freeway that every knuckle head on the road had to slow down to see, it's just a brush fire! I always tell myself I'll never go back to LA, and I do, just to remind myself, that I'll never go back to LA.

Today I'll be installing a toilet in our bathroom remodeling project, and my wife will be painting same bathroom. I think I got the better end of the stick on that one, since I hate painting! We'll be wrapping up that project throughout the week before we head on out to our annual excursion, pictures when we return. Departure date not publicized for obvious reasons. Besides, dad babysits our home when we are gone, we have two mean dogs, and Dad likes his guns, so don't even think about it bad guys.

I found a couple neat websites lately I'd like to share with folks.

Colonial Williamsburg is pretty awesome. We were there last year and I went in all the shops.  Well worth the visit if you are close.

I really want to get our family out there John, to visit the easy coast. There is so much history there, my favorite time period for our nation is the Revolutionary period, and it all happened back there in the east. Can't wait.

Here are some pictures I took in the Joiners shop last year at Colonial Williamsburg. Everything they build on the property is made in the shops using the techniques and tools of the day.

You our would really enjoy it. I think I have some from the cabinet makers shop where the made furniture.

I got the sander off the pallet this morning and onto a couple of rollers to move it in place. I managed to get it off the pallet by myself. Just used a board, plenty of those in the shop, and used the leverage to raise it and scoot it off the pallet and onto the rollers.

So it is almost ready to use. I just have to get a Y for the dust ports and I got to pick up a plug for the power cable. It looks right at home in the shop with the other Grizzly products.

After getting it out of the way, I was able to put my sanding table back in place in front of the Garage Door. Got it setup and all the items back on it and the tools on the shelves.

A full busy day in the shop today and we cleaned a lot of dust out of the shop.

Ready for some rest.

Hi guys and ladies, I am late to the party again, but yea I had a couple of things to do around here. a ring tray that i will get proper pics of, up later. and hopefully I'll get to start on getting some pens done around here. Been a while since I did any of those.. :)

And last but not least I have 2 or three bottle stoppers to do to, that i have been meaning to get at for a couple of months now. So since this is already Sunday, I better quit sitting here, and get to it! :)

Now that's quite a sander John.

Later all

Hey Mr Morris, too bad I am not there, I like painting too. Until it comes to painting wood that is.

Ok finally got some pictures here, even though they are not completed projects yet.

First the Ring tray, a lot of ladies when washing their hands like to take their rings off, so this is just a little something to hang them on or lay them on.

It will be coated several times in Wipe on poly, before being put together. The base is Birdseye maple, and the finial is Mesquite.ringtray.JPG

Oh I also got a new tool yesterday, one I haven't got to use yet, but it will have to wait until the next project.

It's called a Shop Fox Hollower which uses a positional and removable head to do the cutting. I thought that the tip was made of carbide at first but it is actually H.S.S., , which for me is a good thing since it is then easily sharpened on a diamond card. :)

I will still get the EWT hollower's later, but for now, I couldn't beat the price, and needed it for that upcoming project.

hollowingtoolcloseup.JPG

The whole tool is only about 20" long so it's a bit short for some things but great for about 90% of what I will ever do :).

Well that's it for now, what are the rest of you up to?
