Been trying to match the old box, I think I might be close?

Needs a rub out tomorrow, then a top coat.   All this work, just to store a Stanley No.45....

All there, even the 22 cutters I got with it.   Missing the two match cutters, and a depth stop for the slitter, is about all.

That's one nice plane box, Steve.

Did you have to ease the lid retainer? I ask, because I saw the initial dado before the cut and was wondering how it was to fit.

Pretty danged cool Steve, you just keep plugging along and building, building, and building. Thanks for the inspiration Steve.

At first, I thought you had a mirror set up to show the back side of the box! I'd say the two match pretty dang well!!

Had to take the shoulder plane all around the top edge,  test fitting all the way....still not quite perfect, but it is usable.

A fellow LJer,  She is the one who sent me this Stanley 45.    She wanted me to rehab the package, and send her pictures when I got it all  refurbbed up.

Put a coat of gloss varnish on the box this morning,  waiting on that to dry....about like watching grass grow..

Found some labels to print out

At least so I can tell what is in the box

Bottom label will get corrected, when I find the right one.    This is a Canadian made Stanley, after all.....

I love the thought of an old school box for old school tools!

Been looking for a project to use the Cherry boards on......Might make another one of these?    Finger joints, or dovetails?

Yeppers! Finger joints are more true to the era of old boxes for tools.

It looks like you take it apart to store ....or am I just not seeing right. Now I have to make a new box for mine . I used some MDF panels and trim from a drug store (I am a Pharmacist so shop is full of pharmacy paraphernalia) and it is HEAVY.

Yep, Everything has to store flat in the box.   I took the measurements right from the OEM box.   Rather than try to fix the broken box up, I built a new one out of Poplar.  Other than the wood used, it is an exact replica, right down the the cutter stowage.
