April 22, 201610 yr This past week I purchased this Stanley No. 71 Router plane and was glad to add it to my collection. I haven't done anything to it yet as far as cleaning it up. It has a patent date of March 4 '84. This is a Type 4 No 71 Router Plane. This plane was only made for a three year period in this configuration so this is a fairly rare plane to find. I already had a No 71 Type 8. They type 8 was made between 1908 and 1915. Also in the collection I had two Stanley No 71 1/2 planes. The first one is a No 71 1/2 Type 4. The 71 1/2 was made because the 71 originally had a closed throat and then they opened it up. So many of the guys liked the closed throat they brought it back out as a 71 1/2. My other 71 1/2 is a type 5. I am missing the depth gauge on one of them and I just noticed I dropped the blade out of one of them and it wasn't in the picture. Anyway, here is my Router Plane Collection. Looking forward to getting back out and doing more Patriot Picking!!

Well I haven't done anything to figure out the 45, but I picked up one last year in mint condition with all the attachments in the original box. I don't think I posted it here.

Didn't look to me (from your other posts) like you had much to figure out on a 45, you were doing some nice stuff with it. But that is a nice collection of router planes that John has. I don't do a lot of shopping for them, but I do have one on my "to buy" list.

Boy between you two, I'll have to hang my towels on an old rusty nail driven into the wall... Impressive & cool collections for you both...I'll do some scouting at the Covered Bridge Festival this year Brent although I don't recall ever seeing one previously...maybe I should've looked in the Kitchen & Bath accessory areas.

Covered Bridge used to be an every year event for us before we lost my FIL. He did not miss and we used to camp in the Crawfordsville KOA for the weekend. Bridgeton and the Steam Corners Flea Mkt. were my favorites then. It has been a few years now that I have been down there. We go down to The Spoon River Drive in Illinois now on that weekend. You never know where the surprises pop up! Happy hunting!!

I've known the KOA owners for years. Easiest and most economical place for me to get my gas grill tanks re-filled. Current owner is a young woman (to me anyways) that graduated HS with my daughter. She took over when her father passed away unexpectedly about 5 years ago. She does a big business during the CBF. One of the cleanest and nicest KOA's around. Yes, I always hit Steam Corner although it's not nearly as big as it used to be there. Spragg family finally sold out before last year and the number of vendors dropped by half. Bridgeton seems to be the preferred spot over Mansfield now. More antiques and crafted items there versus all the import junk at Mansfield. I hit both plus a large location at Veedersburg along US 41. I usually try to go on the first Monday and last Friday depending on the weather. The weekends are too insane with all the bus loads imported.
September 6, 20178 yr HERE is more info on router planes. The one I have had the depth gauge broken off (a common problem). This was a modification they made to the 71 in the 1890's.
