Friday, April 22nd, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

I have missed a couple of Friday post lately. We had a visit from Ron and Dorothy Dudleston a couple of weeks ago on Friday and this past Friday my Brother in Law passed away. He was my wife's brother and served in the Air Force for 24 years.

It was a busy week and then on top of all we both came down with bronchitis and have been down all week. After shots and meds I am finally feeling a little better today and up and moving slowly around.

So there has been no woodworking in the shop for a couple of weeks and I do have a couple of projects on the bench but they will wait for later.

What about the rest of you Patriot Woodworkers, what is on your agenda for this weekend? I have been popping in to see what is going on and as always, we here at TPW love to see all the wonderful projects you are working on. Post some pictures here and share with us you woodworking projects for this weekend.

It is good to be back online and I look forward to see all  you are doing.

Get well soon both of you, and sorry for your loss :(

As for what I am doing this weekend, I have a project for a hidden compartment key chain that I just received an order for, that I will be doing. Then it's back to a couple of pens that I had already planned out, and finally, to finish one tiny bowl that i have had sitting around drying for the better part of a year.

Last but not least, a larger bowl that the blank has been occupying my floor for the better part of a year to a year and a half made of black gum burl. This will be the largest piece I have ever turned, at 8"x5".

Unfortunately the blank has a lot of bark in it so it may not turn out as good as I hoped, but we'll see :)

What are the rest of you doing?

Sorry to hear about your wife's brother. Mimi and I send our condolences.

I guess you can blame Ron for the bronchitis!  Not sure what I'm going to get into. The new Harbor Freight store is having their grand opening. Maybe I can pick up some inexpensive casters. I've been thinking of mobilizing a shop cabinet so I don't have to carry the disc/belt sander to the workbench.

Good think your retired now John, you can stay home when your sick now! Like your supposed to!

Tomorrow I think I have a day to spend in the shop, clean up, and organization. Been looking through my shaker books and figuring out what to build next! This has been a very busy past two months for my family, we have been at school functions and college tours virtually every weekend. Whew! Can't wait till summer.

For the record, I didn't bring a wicked strain of Ebola to Alabama.  I'm building another quilt rack for stock and I'm build a prop for my daughter.   She's a teacher and is directing a school okay with a jail scene and she needs a jail made.  Oh the things we do.

Will try to get a simple, little box done

side grooves.JPG

Hand cut finger joints take awhile...Box is to hold a Stanley No. 45  I picked up ( FREE!!) at the Magnolia Jamboree.....came home by way of AL then north on 65.    Did quite a bit of rust hunting, too.

Lid for the box has been split off the main section.....the main is sitting in clamps right now.....

Main thing for me is to get my back to go back in.

Last weekend my son and I started on a towel cabinet for the bathroom. I've only had it on my list for 5 years. We got it made and then when I was putting the molding on my back gave way. Ice pack is helping so I'm good!

Well you should have stopped by to see me while you were in the state!

MadjesterWoodworks Sue was doing the driving.....on a Sunday.    We got back into Indiana about 1 am Monday.....Still had to get me home, then she had to drive to upstate NY. near West Point.

As for the Friday Night Project:

New box on the bottom, the one I had to match came from Roxton Pond, Que, Canada.   Might try to find some labels..

You got it looking good Steve. Do you know what year that one is from?

It is from between 1920 and 1930s.....it does have a SW under the Stanley on the skate, right over a Made in Can. Would be a Sweetheart from Roxton Pond, Que. Canada.   Not sure of the exact year, just having way too much fun with it...

Hardest part is setting things up, so they work..

So they cut like this..

Someday, I might just get the hang of this...

Well you are a lot closer than I am. I have two 45's and have yet to put them to wood.
