Turkey Call Awe

Featured Replies

A friend of mine ask me to turn him a turkey call awe or striker out of walnut. First one of these I have ever turned and he was thrilled with it.

I guess so so cause he called up a big turkey opening day with the walnut striker and the next week he called up another one.

I think I'll get busy and turn a few of these now that I know they work!!

Nice turning!

I gotta ask, how does it get used??

You move it across a piece of slate. We found that length, size of the small shaft and the shape of the small end affect the sound.

Different woods also give it a different sound. I'm not much of a caller but you can tell the difference with someone that knows how to call turkeys.

It it needs to be a good hard wood. Exotic woods work good.

Thanks! I had never seen this type of call. The few turkey hunters I know use a "box" call.

The slate is a small round disc.
