Friday, April 1st, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

I got a little busy yesterday on Friday and didn't get my post up. This retirement stuff gets busy somedays.;)

So I got setup for our April First Friday and had a good show. Beth and I were busy at the booth right up till we shut it down and started packing. We had one more item out to pack up and a guy walked up and said I need four of those, so we took care of him and ended the night with a good sale.

I have got to cut a juice groove in a cutting board that will be picked up today and then it will be time to do a little yard work. Grass is already greening up so out comes John Deere and mow it down.

So what is on your Patriot Woodworker agenda? Are you in the shop or working the lawn, doing honey do's or just relaxing? We love to hear about all the things you are doing so please share with us your projects.

I'm off to break out the sun screen...

Yep, The grass is getting close to needing mowed even in Billings!

I need to get 2 more clock cases done for a local antique clock collector. He had me build a couple of cases for gravity clocks at the end of 2015 and he said that he would be wanting a few more. So he just pulled the trigger on the next pair of clock cases.

The first pair were about 24" tall, the second pair will be 48" tall. The taller case will fit a longer gear bar that allows the clock to run a full week before resetting to the top.

In the picture of the clock hanging in the client's home, you can see some of the collection in the background. I also made the floating shelves on the left side of the image. They had to have a welded metal frame to carry the weight of the clocks.

Today is my baby boy's 39th birthday so most of today will be spent with him and his family.  I need to stain and finish this quilt rack before we leave Moodyville this week though.

Nice!

No woodworking for me this past week as Tami has been off work for Spring Break as she is a teacher. So we have spent a lot of time together doing things away from the house. We have done some shopping here and there as well as seeing a movie (God's Not Dead 2" as well as spending some time seeing some beautiful scenery. We spent one day driving down to the coast in Carlsbad, CA where they have the annual "Flower Fields". ( http://www.theflowerfields.com/  ). The fields cover about 50 acres along the Pacific Coast just north of San Diego. Here is a link to our Facebook Page with some of those photos. The following say we took a trip out to the Los Angeles County Arboretum which is some amazing flowers and landscapes. Here is a link to our Facebook Page with some of these photos. ( https://www.facebook.com/taminallen.worsham/media_set?set=a.10208013144039697.1073741837.1631348524&type=3 )

Today I am not sure what we will be doing as we are just wrapping up breakfast and seeing where road takes us.

OK Todd, how do you keep your shop so clean?  You're putting us to shame. :)

I was military also but apparently that clean gene didn't carry forth.

My shop, is actually not very big for a pro shop and to survive it has to be operated with discipline. A clean shop frees up a lot of mental bandwidth for me because everything is in it's place.

All I really do is clean between stages of work and when done. Since a project tends to be broken into stages: milling, cutting to shape or length, assembly, stain, finish (or whatever order a person decides) I just clean between the stages.

But it is not really just about cleaning, it gives me the opportunity to think about the next step in the process. Since my shop is not very big, it does not take very long to clean up and it allows me to refine my thoughts on the production process.

Well I had planned on some woodworking this weekend but the body is saying whoa Nellie,, so I may get a stopper done, I may not, it depends on nature LOL.

If I don't get to do that, then I'll put another row or two on the cast net, and see about putting a movie on.

That's some great looking projects I see there guys :)

My problem is I am always working on several different projects at the same time so there is no in between times. But I do stop now and then and clean up just so I can find myself.
