November 25, 201510 yr A fellow sent me three handplanes to rehab. The Usual deal is: Sent me planes to fix up, paying postage both ways...that is all I will charge....so... The Tres Amigos? The stanley No.6 in front. It had issues with a bent iron...both along it's length, and across the width. iron is now flat and sharp, Chipbreaker mated to it. The plane behind it.....yeah, I'd hide too. Metal Products Corp No.5. Steel froggie. Frog and chip breaker got a tune up, body got a clean up. The Blue Boy in back? I saved the worst for last, I guess. iron needed work, chipbreaker needed even more. But that sole? This was AFTER the beltsander tried it's luck. Note the black sharpie lines. Well, we have other ways to do this.. About halfway done. Finally got it close enough for the girls I run around with.. Still a slight hollow but it is behind the mouth, and out of the way. Sides were cleaned up, iron is sharp, chipbreaker FINALLY sits flat on the iron, and... We have shavings!! So...sometime tomorrow, all three will get packed back up in the box they came in, return shipping label slapped on, and the box will be given to "Buster Brown". One day turn around? yep, I am slowing down a bit now adays......
