As Halloween weekend approaches, what kind of Trick or Treats are you working on in your shop? 

A few weeks back I started on a Walnut bench but had to pull off to get ready for a couple of back to back shows. I didn't get a post up last Friday as we were traveling to Lynchburg, TN for the 27th Annual Jack Daniel Championship Invitational BBQ Cook Off.

They started the morning off around 7:00 with a Jack Daniel Run.

There was quite the crowd on hand.

We were setup just in front of the Court House on the Square just below where they dropped the people off from the buses.

It pretty much rained all day, but it didn't slow down the crowd. The buses just kept rolling in. We had some really nice Walnut Slab boards added to the inventory.

So this weekend I am planning on getting back on the Walnut bench I was working on.

Last night I got the mortises cut in all of the legs and the tenons cut on all of the rail ends. Now they just need a bit of fine tuning with the chisels and planes to get a good tight fit.

That will be the project for this weekend in my shop.

I'll have a little time tomorrow to start on a small project turning two staircase finials for a local funeral home.  Then its off to my daughters for Halloween.

Put the finish on the walnut bowls

 

And got a start on the spalted maple blank

Saturated the surface with CA to help stabilize some of the punky wood.

I glued up 20 small cutting boards, planed and routed 9 end grain cutting boards, began cutting out 14 boards shaped like Illinois, and began prepping stock for bread trays.

No show tomorrow so I'll be finishing up the gluing of bread trays, processing the small boards finish shaping the Illinois boards and making (I hope) a dozen rolling pins

John, do the state shaped boards sell well?

I know this was for the other John but they must cause i get request all the time for Alabama shaped boards.

I usually sell 3 or 4 at a show Ron 

They also travel well. I have some in Europe and one in Hong Kong 

That is surprising but impressive.
