A Strange Place to Get a Job

Featured Replies

This afternoon, I had to pay my respects at one of the local funeral home which happens to to owned by a friend of mine.  He was greeting at the front door and his first words were, "Do you have a lathe?"  He's renovating the oak stairway and is missing two white oak finials so, I walked out with a master finial and an order for two more.  The finials I make won't have the lower flange plate on it.

Cool!

I guess the words, "do you have a lathe" are preferable, from a funeral director, than "you don't look well" ;)

Amen to that Lew.

This same type of thing has happened to me too. I saw a family heirloom that was missing a small spindle. I asked about it and they still had the missing, broken spindle. I secretly stole it. I carefully repaired it and did as best I could to conceal the repair. Then with the help of an insider, I placed it back where it came from. It was some time before it was discovered and there was a lot of questions. The insider couldn't keep a secret and I was exposed. They were so happy.................:)

Those are great gifts!  Both to the recipient and the giver.

Looks like looks like it will be a nice project.

Congratulations on the cool finial and the contract
