Friday, Oct 16th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

Thanks Ron for filling in for me for a few Fridays while I was recovering and continue to from my hand surgery.

So they have okayed me to go back to work on Monday and to work in the shop this past week even though my fingers and palm are still numb. The nerve test say the nerve is a live and will come back but could take six months. So I am learning to adapt to it. Typing is a bit of s problem since I have to use my ring finger on my left hand to type with.

Since I have been in the shop actually doing some work it has felt good.

I got a batch of end grain cutting boards made and they are ready to square up the edges today and the final ROS sanding.

I also got a batch of Cheese boards done and they are ready for Beth to add the ribbon and spreading knives to.

I finished cutting the blanks for bread boards yesterday and they will get the bowl area routed and the ends rounded today.

i am also working on a project for our College Minister. He wanted a lectern that was different and unusual. I found this really nice old surveyor's tripod at an auction and I have mounted a piece of metal on the top that will get painted black to mount to the wood top to.

The top is going to be from some Walnut and he wanted it to have some character so we found a couple of nice pieces in the pile and glued them up. I should get then finished today and get a finish sprayed on.

So it is nice to be back doing some work in my Patriot Woodworker shop and I hope you are getting some time in yours. The weather is abut to take a turn for some cooler temps so now is a great time to enjoy the shop.

I even got in while i have been off my first shipment of John Moody Woodworks Caps in several colors. We have a show to do on the 25th in Lynchburg, Tn at the Jack Daniels Championship BBQ Cook off. So we are getting this ready to be there and have a great weekend.

I hope you get some time to spend in your shop this weekend and enjoy it.

Go and make something and share it with us. I'll be checking back later today so see what you all ore planning on this wonderful fall weekend.

I'll finish up the coffee scoops. Still undecided if I want to leave the unfinished or add an application of Bumble Bee Butter. Then it is on to more Christmas presents- shallow walnut bowls and a spalted maple bowl.

I had an idea about some gnocchi boards and pasta cutting rolling pins but not sure if anyone still does the home made thing.

I know Lew, I get a lot of ladies that tell me how beautiful the boards are but then they say, I don't cook any more. I have one lady I ran into that bought one and she has it hanging on the wall. She like it more for art than a cutting board. Said it was too pretty to cut on so she hung it up to look at.

Welcome back John! :D

As to what I'll be doing, more work on my antique computer case.

Hopefully I'll get it done enough so I can test assemble, and get it loaded.

I finished up my batch of cutting boards and cheese boards and got them all oiled sitting out on the folding tables in the shop/garage. I also picked up 3 large plastic tubs to put them in for storage so my wife can park her car in the shop/garage. They turned out pretty good as I am trying to nail down a few patterns for the large cutting boards that I like.  I want to have about 4-6 different patterns as standards and then make some other patterns with the left over wood. The cheese boards can have a number of different patterns as much of the wood for them are the leftovers from the large boards and I can be a bit more creative.

looking forward to seeing this all put together and loaded!

I think I'll *finally* be starting on some cabinets for a room the previous owner used as an office in this house. Since we moved in, it's been little more than a dump room, with my guns and some other stuff stuck in there. I intend it to be a gun room, with a spot for me to do some reloading and maybe have a desk and computer for household stuff (checkbook, taxes, and so on). I don't need an "office" per se, so this may work out. I'll be moving the ,materials out of our barn to the shop and starting on the side cabinets for the desk area (I hope).
