October 3, 201510 yr Still pinch hitting for John Moody as he recovers from hand surgery. Fall has hit the midwest with wind, rain and cooler temperatures. I'm in the shop wrapping up a few cutting boards and trivets for an upcoming show. So, what's on your weekend agenda? Edited October 3, 201510 yr by Ron Dudelston
October 3, 201510 yr Working on a batch of coffee scoops. I'm going to have to make a trip to Supergrit for some Abranet sanding supplies. Then it's on to making some walnut bowls. I also ended up with a really nice piece of Butternut. I may try a bowl from it, too.
October 3, 201510 yr I have been working on getting the first batch of cutting boards completed for the Christmas Season. Yesterday I got them all (9 large boards and 18 small boards) sanded at 150 grit and today I will get them finished with 220 grit before blowing off the dust and putting on the mineral oil. Being that I am doing a bit different style than before I have to change up the process a bit in how I do things. Once I get this first batch completed then I will be able to move things along quicker.Having breakfast with my wife before we head out to do some shopping and a few other things.
October 3, 201510 yr I'm replacing some of the cabinets in the shop. When we moved here (5 years ago) what was to be my shop was basically an unfinished garage, with nothing that would make it a shop. I finished/wired/insulated the garage, but my tools were still mothballed, so i had only an RAS, tracksaw, and leftover scraps of woods to make some temporary shelves and cabinets before I moved my tools in. The "temp" items are still there....I'm starting to replace them just now.
October 3, 201510 yr Making and replacing arm on dining room chair for neighbor. some signage, Christmas ornaments, old intarsia maybe cleaning shop.
October 4, 201510 yr Mostly lately my woodworking has been metalworking to get to woodworking.Finishing up plans for a lathe steady rest. It'll be steel. Big C shape with wheels off set from the usual Y pattern to allow my Franken Visualizer ( not built yet) to be usedMy Franken Hollower Articulated Arm ( posted in the Turners section) needs a little finishing. I gotta make a Trent Bosch Visualizer type system for it. He sells his for a gozillioin dollars and I think I can do the same thing for less than a hundred. So today I made the mount that I'll weld to the tool post. There's a dead cherry tree I gotta cut down and see if my hollower really hollows - hoping it hasn't gone to rot completely - it's been dead a while now.
October 4, 201510 yr I also processed 20 bread trays, 30 scrapers, and 5 clipboards. The clippies also got 3 coats of urethane and will be ready to go tomorrow.
October 4, 201510 yr That's a pretty neat electronic gadget, but I wonder if something like this wouldn't be pretty close the same- About $6 for the 4.5v P/S and $3 for the laser and some metal rods from the Borg and homemade articulated clamps. I've been playing with the idea of adding something to a standard carbide tipped hollowing tool. Edited October 4, 201510 yr by lew
