Friday, Sept 11th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Lest we not forget 9/11 on this day!

Friday and a nice weekend coming up in our area. Man can you believe that summer has already gone and it seems like just a few weeks ago we were just getting started in summer. The high here for Sunday morning is going to be 48 degrees. Just this past week it was 98 here. What a change.

But with the cooler air I love to get in the shop and it has been nice with the AC but now it will not be long till the heat will get turned on.

This past weekend my sawyer called and he had a load of cedar ready for me so we made a short trip up and got it and unloaded it close to the shop door.

My son Josh got started on cutting out and assembling an order of Green Egg Tables.

All day in the shop and he made good time. Two of them are complete except for cutting the hold and the other two are framed up and ready for decking.

As soon as we get these out we will have two more to finish this order.

We also did First Friday last week. It began to rain right after we setup so we had to cover everything and wait on it to pass. Just a short shower.

Part of our display of Large boards.

First_Friday_Display_3.thumb.jpg.155fb1dAnd some of the Medium and Small boards.

But the rain makes spots on the boards. It is really funny, you can wash them with out any problems, but get rain water on them and it raises the grain and makes a spot that has to be sanded down and then the boards have to be re-oiled. So over the weekend "WE" worked on that.

Last year I made this large Maple sign for this really neat boutique in downtown named "Maple". I made the sign so they could put lights behind the cutout of the letters. Well they finally got the LED lights installed.

And our last project for the weekend was to finish insulating the wall where we took down the garage door and installed the walk in door. I had some extra pieces of Walnut and strips of Cedar so we decided a woodworker should have a nice Walnut and Cedar wall.

So we got that all done and moved the cabinets back in place.

This weekend will be more cutting boards, egg tables and who knows what else.

What are you doing in your Patriot Woodworker shop? We here at TPW love to see all of the projects you work on and here all about them. So come on and post here what is on your agenda this weekend.

Man, you are busy!

I remember when Charles Chips were only available here in south central PA.

John,

Hard to believe it's been 14 years since 9/11.

Looks like you're having similar weather to us here in S.E. WI. I'm glad the heat/humidity has tapered off.

Hopefully the rains will pass so I can do some painting of parts, etc..

Also have to mow about 5 acres, I let it go through the heat wave and now it's too wet.

Do you know anything about the Chips in the Orange can on the other side. Mutter's Chips. They were from PA.

Today I went stealing, I mean pickin' at a local festival but tomorrow morning I need to finish one gable end of my house that I'm hanging aluminum facia on.  I'm building a walnut display case for my hand planes (finally) so I may play with that but my beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish play at Virginia tomorrow and my equally beloved Colts play at Buffalo Sunday s and those are must do activities. ♪♫ Its the most wonderful time of the year ♪♪♫    I did have a very interesting call this afternoon.  A local collector of Civil War arifacts has asked me to meet with her to discuss building a display case for a Civil War drum that was used at the battle of Nashville.  I can't wait to see it!!!!

John, are the legs on your tables solid? I didn't see any 4x 4s in that stack of wood. Nice stack, BTW.

I don't remember these but I did find this-

http://www.newspapers.com/newspage/48966312/  There's information in the "OCR Text" section. Use CTRL+ F search for mutter. From what I can find, Mutter's was eventually purchased by Good's Potato Chips in Lancaster, Pa.

Yes they are solid. We get 5"x5" and take them down to true 4"x4". There were two in the stack. When we unloaded we took them straight in the shop and cut them down to leg size so we could start.

That's cool. I got the Mutter's can from and Estate sale from a person that moved here from PA.

On the left of the stack is an old 5x5 and right under it is one we didn't take in the shop. It is sticking out about 6" or so.

Yesterday I finished up getting all of the pieces for the knock down rocking chairs  cut and shaped with only the final sanding left to do on all the pieces before putting on a coat of primer. With these parts I will be able to put together 5  complete chairs to sell for Momma's Christmas Money.
