September 5, 201510 yr Quick stop for a Labor Day garage sale last night netted a few things. I am not well versed in saws but believe this to be a D8 Disston with the thumb hole. It will clean up nicely. Throw in the tongs, C clamp and the early workmate and it wasnt too bad a night at twenty bucks. I have wanted an older Workmate with the cast frames for awhile. Nearly no plastic to break on this one. These are certainly not as exciting or rare as a Stanley #1 but I am happy. Enjoy the long weekend! Edited November 21, 20178 yr by Ron Dudelston tags added
September 5, 201510 yr Pretty danged exciting to me! Great finds! Nice Disston, I love that thumbhole, I have not seen one like that. Very cool.
September 11, 201510 yr Author Got a good start cleaning the D8 last night. Now I am a little more excited. It only took about 20 minutes in the tank and a quick wipe with a Scrubbing pad to get to this point. The etch is in great shape and the blade is not kinked! There will be some pitting at the tip, about 2 inches of length, which is a bummer, but, overall, this should be a great user for me. A little work on the pitting tonight with the fine grit and a sanding block and I should be ready to re-assemble and take a shot on touching up the teeth. The handle and bolts got the wax and 0000 steel wool treatment. I might have gotten them a little brighter than I usually prefer to.
September 11, 201510 yr Author Thanks John. I could not believe how easy this one cleaned up. I usually have much greater struggles with the saws that I have done. This one is a breath of fresh air, really.
September 11, 201510 yr Amazing restoration job! All it takes is a little work to restore an older tool to near showroom quality. Well done! BTW, what model Bailey is that behind the saw? Edited September 11, 201510 yr by Ron Dudelston
September 12, 201510 yr Author Amazing restoration job! All it takes is a little work to restore an older tool to near showroom quality. Well done! BTW, what model Bailey is that behind the saw? The Bailey is a number 7 jointer, as I recall. I would have to look again to get the type right, though! Here is a little better shot of the plane and a before shot of the saw too. This bunch of planes is supposed to be sold but not sure if the deal will close or not. Edited September 12, 201510 yr by Bundoman
September 12, 201510 yr Author You would be right. They are part of about 200 planes I bought last year and have been cleaning and selling duplicates for awhile now.
