June 30, 201510 yr Well, drove down there to check things out. Got to meet the owner, a fellow from Lumberjocks named "JustplaneJeff". Auction did start @10am.....it was after 11am before they got TO the tool tables Nope, they didn't start here until almost NOON They started with these three big boys. Then a few transits, each in their own case. Then some box lots LOTS of box lots, either by the box full (just missed out on a tray of chisels) or a couple pieces as "choice." Finally got around to the planes....Them Moving fillisters? (5 of them) $25-45 each! Then the five trays of molding planes...choice. Then a few Trans. planes. some were a bit ugly, but I finally won a pair of these Cost me $5 for the pair of old stanleys (more on another post) Had two old coots standing almost ON the seller's table, trying to block out anyone else. Didn't stick around to see what these went for...they already sold a group of 10 for $35....There were some saws laying on the table....sold them as a set. As for the GOOD saws Not sure how these 12 saws went for. Was getting a bit feisty around that table, went and paid my $5, put the planes in the van, and walked downtown. There were three Antique Stores to prowl around in... In the third one ( called The Boston) clear in the back of the store...imagine a dinning room table (it was for sale,BTW @$200) covered in old tools. There were shelf units on three sides, covered in tools, there was a smaller table back in the corner, covered in tools. plus tools on the floor! Didn't have all that much to spend from my "Allowance", so just two items left with me. A bit for a brace that has a 12 stamped onit, and shaped like a gimlet. The other was by Winstead Tools, a Karpenter brand 1" wide chisel almost 15" long, counting the handle. Chisel is sitting between the two planes. a Stanley No.28, and a Stanley No.29 Spent most of the weekend getting all four items rehabbed. Might be a post about them...if anyone wants it? Auction was free admission. A LARGE tent was set up for glass ware, old toys and other like items. The auction started in the tent, of course. It was still going on when they sent a "sub" over to the tools.... All that walking around downtown ( 3 blocks out, three blocks back) and they were still going at it. A Large tarp on the ground had box lots. There was furniture and such around the corner from the tools, including a working pump organ! This was an all day sale. There was even a lunch trailer! Lots of fun! Moody would have passed out!!!
June 30, 201510 yr Sounds like my kind of place. I look for those on a regular basis. Too bad it wasn't a bit closer, I would have had to give it a visit.
