Friday, June 5th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

First Friday in June and we have a show to do tonight. As a matter of fact, we are doing something tonight we have never done, we will have two separate booths in different locations tonight. That should prove to be interesting. We will have one in an indoor location and one outside in the normal spot.

There is a large building that has been renovated in downtown and they are calling it "Court Street Market". They have been talking with us about putting a booth in it so tonight we will give it a try and run both at the same time.

We have finished up three Green Egg tables this week and the last one will be delivered on Saturday. One was picked up yesterday and was headed to Nashville, TN.

I have one more that is a custom table with two cabinets underneath with pull out drawers that we will be working on. We are also installing a new walk in door in the front of the shop where currently there is a pull up garage door. Since we are adding on to the side of the shop I have to make a new entrance so that will happen tomorrow.

Lots going on in the shop these days and we have had all hands on deck.

So what is on your Patriot Woodworker agenda this weekend. You know that we look forward here at TPW to seeing the projects you are working on and you plans for the weekend. So post those weekend projects and pictures if you have them.

I'll be checking in often to see what all of our Patriot Woodworkers are doing.

Sounds like fun guys.

I have a couple of things I need to do this weekend. A small handle and some pens to make.

A friend is running a yardsale this weekend weather permitting, so I left her with some of the items I have had sitting around for ages to see if she can get a few sales from that, we'll see how it goes.

What are the rest of you up to?

100% loafing.  I just finished a small job for a lady at church (a set of white oak bed racks for her truck) and I don't feel like starting another project just yet so I'm loafing.

Been cleaning and straightening out my wood shed. Probably be at it the rest of the day and part of tomorrow.

I found a couple pieces of full 8/4 Philippine mahogany (I think). About 15" wide and 4' long. And one piece of 4/4 X 14 X 6' that might be mahogany, also.  And a bunch of 4/4 mesquite along with a whole lot of 1/8 and 1/4 mesquite that I'd resawn several years ago. The rest is all 6' and 8' lengths of curly maple, walnut and red and white oak. Oh yea, one 8/4 slab of walnut with a knot right in the middle. About 5' long and maybe 14-16" wide. Table or...???

When the shed gets all nice and pretty I'll start back on the Morris chairs. This whole "clean the woodshed" thing came about when I was looking for some 8/4 white oak for the chairs that I knew I had stashed in there somewhere.

I found it!

I've got a walnut blank mounted on the lathe, and practicing  my bowl turning skills. Who knows, it might even turn into a bowl. But I'm going pretty slow since I'm so unsure of what I'm doing...but it may get done this weekend.

Hi Fred, just remember (depending on the size of the piece) you don't want to be turning it much over 500 RPM and take light cuts until you get the feel for how the tool is cutting for you. I'll be around if you have any questions. Just pop into the woodshed chat or message me directly :)

Gonna finish up the small wooden fingernail grinding jig, make  a holder for scroll saw blades, cut some pen blanks to length, drill them and glue the tubes in and I've got a pen blank set-up on the lathe to turn (PSI Nautifcal).

Lew, did that paper come from your local distributor?

Yes, Super Grit. In fact, when you are in Gettysburg you will be 5 minutes from their store. Google maps should be able to provide directions- if not, let me know.

Hey Ernie, My blade holders are 4" lengths of 1" PVC pipe. Just super glued them together and then to a short piece of 1/2" scrap plywood. I think I used 6 pieces. I know some are empty because I only bought about 4 different blade configurations.

Well, guys - not much in the woodworking area for me this weekend.  We (Judy and I) spent the week travelling to Utah to visit the youngest son and his family.  This weekend is being spent helping them spruce up, fix up, etc. their new used house in Tooele, Utah.

As far as blade holders, I have used "shooters" mounted about 1" apart in a scrap piece of 2x4.

Are you enoying your excursion Fred?  Better yet, have you made any money?

We just got back Friday from our 4,600 mile road trip.

Went to a grand daughters graduation in Ark. and then in S. Calif. Lots of driving but well worth the trip.

So for this weekend we are re-grouping and relaxing so no wood working for a few more days.

I made a scroll saw blade holder out of a scrap piece of 2x4 and pex pipe.

So far just spending money - show is June 18-20

We are also enjoying our kids and grandkids and visiting sites around Salt Lake City
