Friday, April 10th, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

It seems to me things are moving so fast and I am standing still and not getting much done. Here we are almost the middle of April and I have more to do than I can figure out where to start. It has rained every other day here this week and the finish on my table is not drying fast enough. I need to get the final finish on this weekend but it is not looking good. It has taken all week for the second coat of stain to dry and not be tacky.

Oh well, it will get done when it can.

I cut out blanks so I can get started on Cutting Boards. I have about four shows coming up in a six week period so we have got to get boards cut and glued this weekend. Watch out, the saw dust will be flying.

I also have an order for a larger than normal board and have the blanks cut to start it also. They are the taller ones in this picture. This will be an end grain board that is 26" x 24" x 1 1/4".

I did manage to get home in time yesterday to fire up the John Deere and cut the lawn before the rain moved in again last night. Hopefully it will move out today my lunch.

So that is the happens in my Patriot Woodworker shop what is on you Patriot Woodworker agenda for this weekend? All of us here at TPW love to see and hear about your wonderful projects, so please share what you are working on. Big or small we love to see them all (woodworking projects)!

I hope to squeeze in a bit of Patriot Picking time if possible.

Let me hear about your weekend projects.

I get to loaf tomorrow.  The grandsons both have basketball games and I'm out of the shop until Monday.  Today I finished a huge dresser that will hold 9 laundry baskets.  It is the big brother to the one I finished last week.  It is 92" L X 21"D X 47"H, made of 3/4" cabinet grade poplar plywood and it is heavy.  I'm glad to have it out of my shop so that I can do something smaller.  Next week I build stock of summer shows.  At least that's what I have planned.  I think there's another cabinet job coming in.

Great job on both of those cabinets Ron. Really look great, nice and clean lines.

That's quite a pile of wood, John!

Ron, hope you had some help carrying that out of the shop!!!

As for me, I made the first dry fit on the humidor stand (legs are finally sanded). The front apron will have a "french curve" treatment and all of the bottoms of the apron will have an ogee edge. Then LOTS more sanding. I hope the cabinet portion of the humidor will go a little faster!

I left the pads on the legs extra long after my experiences with chair building and trying to get them to set level/flat.

Beautiful Lew.  I want to see that in June!

Wow Lew!!! Those are so awesome. Great work on the legs. That is going to be a great looking table and I love the walnut!

Lew, have you thought ahead far enough to select a finish?

Really looking forward to the finished product Lew. Beautiful work so far.

Ron,

I have been muddling that over since I started the project. Because this is a custom job, I will do what the customer wants.

The fellow I am working for creates flint lock long rifles using period construction methods. The only power tools used are to cut the rifle stock blank from the wood slab.  Here's a link someone posted of one of his rifles-

That is an absolutely beautiful weapon.  Here's the challenge as I see it.  Making a very nice case for the flintlock but not letting the case overshadow the weapon.  Nice work indeed!

Nice cabriole legs

nice book case.
