April 4, 201511 yr And barely missed a Thunderstorm afterwards. They had a BUNCH of hand tools, alright. IF you did a lot of mechanic stuff, that is. They did have a few "F" clamps, 24" ones @ $5 each...yikes. Hidden underneath a Great Neck handsaw ( big label around the medallion) lay another saw. nticed a "Keystone" on it's medallion, and the price seemed about right...$3 My son did buy a few "toys", though, and spent $110 ! Bostitch Pancake Compressor, some air hose that I might have made way back when, and a Craftsman 1/2" drive Impact gun, with reverse and three forward gears. Now about this old saw, wasn't much to look at, really rusty from being in a barn. Handle was a might boxy. Blade was straight, and sharp, though. One bolt was a replacement. Took it home, and started a rehab, then the rains came again. Slowly got things cleaned up. Handed was scraped, planed and sanded, with the corners rounded a bit. Brass was cleaned up, and most of the rusty stuff was gone. Handle does look a little bit better. As for the plate? Lots of patina there....Was very rusty. Saw is still quite sharp, though. Info on this saw. Disston made and sold the Warranted Superior saw as the "Imp" . 26" long, with 8ppi. crosscut. A test drive showed that it will cut straight , and fast. Too much rust to find any sort of etch. Hand is solid, no crack or breaks. Has that replacement bolt. Not a big deal. Not too bad for $3?
April 6, 201511 yr Author Mo' info: Made from 1907 to 1917 #091 The Imp 26" long plate 8ppi crosscut Warranted Superior around a bunch of "stars" that surround a Keysotne. Haven't found an etch...yet. Cuts straight, and fast. And just a atd rough. Good Carpentry saw. $3 might have been a wee bit high priced? Still early in the season...
