Friday, April 3rd, What's on Your Patriot Woodworker Agenda?

Featured Replies

Good Friday, many of you that still have to work may be off today, I'm not and have to work. Tonight would be the second of our First Friday shows, last month was snow and iced out and it is looking like today is going to be rain and possible tornado'ed out. Weather is to move into our area around 3:30 and that is usually when I am setting up the booth. 70 mph winds expected so it is looking like I will be doing something else this evening and not selling inventory.

I do have several projects in the works in the shop though so I will get a little more shop time for them. If all goes well I should be putting the stain on the bottom of the Breakfast table in the morning.

I got all of the screw holes plugged and sanded this week so after just a bit of touch up sanding I am ready for the stain.

I am also working on a custom sized Green Egg Table for a customer. This is the SketchUp drawing for the table.

I think I'll create a jig to hold the legs so I can do most of the initial sanding on the oscillating spindle sander.

Nice project you got going on there Lew! Beautiful legs!

John, love the table, that suckers gotta be heavy!

Remember you had shoulder surgery a couple years back, don't go playing the hero and try to rescue one of those Easy Ups as it starts to blow away today! Let her go!

I don't have much going on this weekend, my back is shot, I did something yesterday at work and my old Army injury flared up on me, and now I am sitting here waiting for our Chiro office to open up so I can make an appointment. I should be working on our bathroom remodel, getting it up and running but I think I am down for the count over the next few days. Got a big bridge construction project coming up the week after next, I'll be the chief surveyor on that one, and I need my back to function properly, sheesh, great timing!

Your Sketchup prowess is coming along nicely John!

Nice looking legs Lew!  This weekend I resting and relaxing with all my kids and grandkids.  Sunday, I'll be in church to celebrate my risen Savior.  Monday, I be starting another laundry basket dresser.

Well it turned out to be 2 jigs. One the mirror image of the other-

Dry wall screw to secure the other end

First sanding on the oscillating spindle sander. Sanded the 2 vertical sides, switched jigs, sanded the other 2 vertical sides.

Still lots of detail sanding and some more hand shaping/rounding of the sharp corners and then more sanding, of course.

A FULL day in the shop, for once! Might be getting something done for a change..

Don't look like much, but it is taking almost every clamp I have.   Clamped the top on it, for the over night...

Look at them bottom rails, you will see the rebates for the plywood shelf.

To bad I have to work the next three nights, might have got this thing done.   Two drawers, one on each end.  Plus the runners, and something to attach the top.   Might be almost halfway done...

I didn't do a lot of woodworking this weekend in the shop. I did however manage to get the first coat of stain on the base of the breakfast table. I have got to get it a bit darker and the sample board took two coats to get to the darkness I needed.

I hope to get the second coat on tonight, but it has been raining all day and I have a customer coming to the shop at  6:30 so we will see how it goes.
