Sketchup Help Needed

Featured Replies

I have drawn this table in sketchup and need to push the hole out in the center. The way I created this made the top an array. I can't double click and make the center go away and leave just the hole.

Any ideas.

Not sure if this will work but... try making the circle outside of the drawing and then placing it on the surface of the table. Maybe then you could intersect the circle with the model, you might then be able to remove the center of the circle.

No actually it is called an "Array".

I made the first board, made it a component, then copied it and moved the copy to the opposite side of the top. I then typed /5 in the box at the bottom and it placed all of the other boards spaced out. I wanted to put the small board in between and it will be a different wood. So this seemed to be the quickest way to draw it. BUT, now that it is drawn, I can't push the hole out.

I hope that makes sense Lew.

And thanks for jumping in and helping.

When I was playing with the posted drawing, I made an array with the boards. However, I didn't make the first board a component. I just selected all of the surfaces then did the array. Next I created a circle and pulled it up the same dimension as the board thickness. Next moved the "circle" and placed it on the surface of the boards. Then selected the circle, and all of the boards it touched. Next,  I intersected the faces with the selections. Finally, deleted all of the circle stuff to leave the hole.

Not sure that makes sense now that I read it. If your boards are components, you could explode all of them and try what I did.

I'm sure there's an easier way but I don't know what it is.

Lew you were on the right track with the way you did it.

I deleted the top and re-drew it following along with your instructions.

It was a lot more work than I believe it should be but for now I am learning more than I have before with SketchUp.

Here is the table with the hole cut. I have a bit more work to do on it. I think I can build the table faster than I can draw it.

Looks Good! I know there a thing called "Reverse Faces" that can make light/dark colored surface match better. I'm just a beginner at Sketchup myself. I'm lucky to have an acquaintance who helps me when I get stuck. He's a real Guru with the software.

I know what you mean about the time it takes to design something. The bunk bed took me longer to design than build!

I did manage to get the casters on there also.
