February 18, 201511 yr Today, the United States Army announced that the 2009 Fort Hood attack was indeed a terror attack, and that the victims will receive Purple Hearts. According to an Army media release today, due to a provision in the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act of 2015, the attack that took place in 2009 will now be considered a terror attack because the perpetrator of the attack “was in communication with the foreign terrorist organization before the attack,†and “the attack was inspired or motivated by the foreign terrorist organization.†The Army determined there was sufficient evidence to conclude that Hasan was communicating with foreign terrorists before the attack “and that his radicalization and subsequent acts could reasonably be considered to have been ‘inspired or motivated by the foreign terrorist organization.’" The Army says,“…the circumstances related to the November 5, 2009, shooting at Fort Hood meet the criteria for the award of the Purple Heart and the Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom.†Secretary of the Army, John McHugh has ordered all qualifying soldiers and former soldiers receive Purple Hearts, and any qualifying current or former Army civilians and contractors be awarded the Defense Medal for the Defense of Freedom.
