January 24, 201511 yr Well, not really, but they sure look and feel like new sanders! I finally bit the bullet and purchased two new pads for my Makita BO5030 ROS and my Porter Cable 330 Speed Bloc. I put this off for so long, it's criminal, I even had paper whizzing off my ROS for quite a few projects before I got off my rear and hit up Amazon for a pad for each sander. Quite inexpensive too. The removal of the old pads were easy, just a few phillip screws out and back in, the ROS had some line up issues though, but I got it figured out in seconds. Any who here are some boring pics, only a woodworkers could like these images! And I also posted some links where I purchased the pads from. My Makita with the old pad on the side, it was shot, the loops were not longer loops, it was virtually melted. I have had this sander on for hours on end in a day, and the pad surface would heat up and eventually fail. My PC 1/4 sheet sander, I love this machine, in my humble opinion they beat all others on the market for efficiency and sound quality. January 24, 201511 yr Hey john, welcome to the 21st century!!!!!! You'll find you can go to a automotive body shop supply store (or any place that sells sandpaper) and get rolls of the stuff CHEAPER and in tri-mite. did that back in the 80's with a converter kit from makita ( just a piece of vinyl that clamped in place of the sandpaper) and I bought the rolls. tear one off, put sander on roll, cut with knife, back in business!!

Thanks Mike, you are correct, I buy my paper from our local auto body store. What took me to the store originally was I needed some Abralon for a project, and while there I found they sell top notch paper pretty inexpensive.
January 24, 201511 yr I replaced my pad on my PC ROS about a month ago. I picked one up one ebay for about $15. Wish I had done it sooner.

January 25, 201511 yr our local farm and tool supply (Fleet Farm) has these in stock for $12.99. I even keep a few spares on hand at home. as soon as that first piece of paper flies off we swap the pads out.

Took me awhile to learn that!

I bought two sanders, an R/O and a jitterbug finish sander, both with Velcro pads. Within a week, I was changing them to sticky pads. Velcro is good to hold my pants up. Not so good on sanders....JMHO. Now, I use sticky paper on all sanders, even the ones with clamps. Sure saves time.

Gene, I know you are talking to JH, but I thought I'd chime in here too, I have always used velcro with my ROS, but have not tried the pad that accepts sticky paper, I think I'll get another ROS pad for sticky paper and give it a try. My 1/4 sheet sander is a dual pad, it can take sicky back or regualr clamp paper. So I can try the sticky back on my sheet sander immediately, and I think I will based on your reccomendation.
January 26, 201511 yr After Ron D. changed out the pad on his and we were talking I ordered one from my Dewalt ROS. Same thing, it was so easy I am not sure why I didn't do it before and for less than 15.00. I have a Bosch that I am going to change out next. I am not sure what I will do with all of the ROS sanders that just needed a bit of maintenance. I guess I will have one for everyone in the family!!!

I have another PC 330 that was not working, the motor would spin but the pad would not move, so I took it apart last weekend and it appears it's just a connector bushing that has failed, all I need to do is order the new part from PC and now I'll have two nice PC 330's.

January 31, 201511 yr I'm using the Velcro pads. We use our sanders a lot close to 75 items each week and only run through a pad or two a year
August 19, 20169 yr 5 hours ago, Marv Rall said: John, I am with you---- I use Velcro on all ROA sanders--- Amen! Seems like the care is easy, and their is less cause for damage when it's abused. The PVA foam pads seem pretty fragile, you can burn the edges off pretty quickly, or a splinter will gouge through them easily as well.
