January 18, 201511 yr Have any of you tried these new blades? Just saw an ad for them. Never heard of them before. Looking for input. http://www.deltamachinery.com/accessories/scroll-saws/item/40-517
January 18, 201511 yr Fred Never used them, I am sold on Flying Dutchmen. The sound a lot like the Better Olsen blades. The specifications on this sound tempting.
January 19, 201511 yr Author When I get an extra $10 I might try a dozen. Of course I can get at least a couple dozen FD for the same price. That being said, will have to consider quality and length of service. If anyone has used them, please chime in.
January 19, 201511 yr Fred Want to do a two man field test here on The Patriot ? If you do, I'm in I may just do it anyway.
January 20, 201511 yr Author Yeh, I'm in - don'[t know where to get them yet, but I'll find out. We should use the same blades on a couple of species of wood. Stand by, folks, details to follow.
January 21, 201511 yr Fred Cheapest I have found them on a quick search. $7.00 for a dozen. http://toolsandmore.us/delta-40-517-scroll-saw-blade.aspx Going to order 2 dozen and give them a test run or two. If we are going to do this, should we use the same wood, thickness etc ? This should be fun. Tried to order 2 dozen. They have something going on, could only order 1 dozen. Shipping was a flat rate $6.50
January 21, 201511 yr Author Wayne - ordered mine from Amazon - will let you know when they arrive. "If we are going to do this, should we use the same wood, thickness etc ? This should be fun." Yes, I believe it should be that way. We might even go so far as to use the same pattern ! ! ! ! ! Fun, fun, fun - AND establishing a base line for these blades.
January 23, 201511 yr Sounds like a plan Fred. Let me know what pattern or patterns you have in mind. Definitely should be a lot of fun.
January 24, 201511 yr I use nothing but the Olsens. And those blades YOUR GETTING are for 1/4 OR LESS. just sayin.
January 24, 201511 yr Author Mike - you are right about the advertised 1/4" or less. Wayne and I are going to give them the ole torture test test just to see what they will do. He and I are die-hard Flying Dutchmen guys.

January 25, 201511 yr Knowing how much detail Fred and I enjoy this should be a great fun project. Mike you are right about the pricing, and like Fred state we are die hard Flying Dutchman cutters. Running blades through the "torture test" will be so much fun and interesting. Looking at the specs on these, and the fact they are made in Germany makes me wonder who's blades they are re-packing. They match up perfectly to Flying Dutchman lades. Just saying.
January 26, 201511 yr Author Wayne said - "Looking at the specs on these, and the fact they are made in Germany makes me wonder who's blades they are re-packing. January 27, 201511 yr Author Just got my blades...............had to play around a little First impressions Reason for being a little more expensive - a dozen #2 blades in a plastic tube that will hold close to a gross does the trick. Wonder what would happen if a person orders 3 or 4 dozen. First impression - all blades were bent along the axis of the teeth. Looks like a streched out letter "capital C" I had 1/2" Walnut on the table and had been cutting using a #1 FDUR. Very little if any fuzz on the bottom. Switched to the other blade, had to slow down a little and definitely had more fuzz on the bottom Big difference - had to move my chair to the left in order to cut straight. No biggy. That alone tells me that the blades act almost like "precision ground" in that there is no pull to the right as in the FDUR blades. When switching to 3/8" Maple, push speed decreased in order to have no burning. #1 FDUR still a little better - in my humble opinion That's it for today - will report more later.
January 28, 201511 yr I just got mine opened. Nice tube they come in. I should be cutting tomorrow night. I'll keep you posted.
January 28, 201511 yr Author Thanks, John - you made my day - I'll download it and take it to the shop
February 5, 201511 yr The #2 Blades First off I am a die hard Flying Dutchmen cutter as is Fred I agree with Fred about the reason for the added expense, the tube is large, thick and the prism effect allows you to see the blades clear and in detail, they will hold a gross and last forever. I had the same issue with it cutting to a skew to the left. Running it through some 1/4 " Baltic Birch ply. Slow progress and the added layers of glue took it's toll on the blades pretty quick. Cut some 1/2" pine, not a real test due the wood being very soft, and the fuzz on the back was a lot more then what I would have with a #1 or #3 FDUR. Ran a piece of 1/2" African Mahogany next, followed but 3/8" cherry. The cherry was burned in no time and even slowing the pressure and speed of the blade made it cumbersome and a very long cutting time. I guess for me bottom line is Flying Dutchmen Blades out shined these all around but I am grateful for the opportunity to have tried these. I'm staying with the Flying Dutchmen.
