December 25, 201411 yr Ok Patriot Woodworker's,how'd yall do! What did Santa bring you and your shop! We had a pretty mellow Christmas this year, mama and me promised each other we'd not exchange gifts, but we did manage a couple nice ones for our kids. An Ipod 5h Gen for our youngest girl along with some books she wanted. Then we got a set of books that our oldest girl wanted, she loves the Bill O'reilly series of killing books, Killing Lincoln, Killing Patton etc. So we set her up with those and she wanted some books by William Buckley and a hand full of other books. So now she can go to school armed to the teeth for debates. Our boy scored some nice clothes and books. All went well, and we had a great time all the while not losing sight of the reason for the season. I have the greatest gift in the world, a healthy family (but for me, dealing with this incredible cough and flu!), and you guys! Thank you Patriot Woodworkers and staff for being here, and helping and contributing to our community. Let us not forget those who have served our country and paid the ultimate price, and let us not forget those families who are putting out a place mat at the table tonight for their deployed soldier or lost loved one. So, how about you all, any cool tools or machines that ended up under the tree this year?
December 25, 201411 yr Pretty low key for us this year. We had my Bro-in-law's family over who live 2 miles from us. This morning my wife and I slept in and then I got up and started writing up our annual Christmas Newsletter which I should get out in the mail before New Years. Our daughter is still living at home with us so we had breakfast together and we got her a few gifts. For me I got a $25 Home Depot gift card from my daughter which will go to replace my wheezing Craftsman Shop Vac that I have had for about 16 years and has been a real work horse. My wife and I did not get each other anything this year, but we did find an antique oak hall tree at an antique shop. It is is pretty good shape with original hardware. Since I don't like getting gifts or cards, my daughter got me a very humorous Hanukkah card which made me chuckle.
December 25, 201411 yr Author Marry Christmas Allen, and that hall rack looks completely cool! A nice peaceful Christmas is what the doc ordered some of the time isn't it? I have noticed that since the kids are getting bigger, Christmas morning takes on new feel as each year passes.
December 25, 201411 yr We had a great Christmas. It's always great to be with family. Our two grandkids got bikes, as did their mom. Sons and DILs all got nice gifts. Gramma and grampa received a couple Hunter fans and a Kindle Fire. We have 5 more days of Christmas as some of the extended family are dribbling in all next week.
December 26, 201411 yr The Christmas chaos just ended here. Santa bought me some Kreg jis, a new 18 volt drill and and new grill. The grill was an afterthought. There's a local store here that is closing and I bought a 6 burner Charbroil grill for $175, 50% off. Dorothy and I bought ourselves a new boxspring and mattress.
December 26, 201411 yr Merry Christmas to all. Finally relaxing in the rocker, and Mother is on the couch. The family surprised me with a DeWalt impact drill/driver and a propane heater for the garage so I can work in relative warmth this winter. A great holiday overall. Will
December 26, 201411 yr We had a very nice Christmas. It was a bit different as my Daughter and SIL have moved 400 miles away and my daughter was working right up till Christmas Day. So they didn't make the trip and this was the first year they were not home for Christmas. We did have both the boys home and one of my granddaughters was there. We attended a Silent service at Church Wednesday evening then came home, grilled steaks and opened presents. I got a Kreg jig and a new Dewalt drill alone with a couple of gift cards. I brought my mom over on Christmas Day and spent the day with her. It was a busy Christmas, but a nice one spent with family. I even got a facetime call from Ron and Dorothy which was really nice.
December 26, 201411 yr Author Sounds like folks had a wonderful and meaningful Christmas here. I hope many of our Patriot Woodworker's had an enjoyable time as well. Christmas can be a tad rough for some, especially those that are home bound or without family, thanks guys for the check in!

John and Ron, my youngest girl got her Ipod 5 for Christmas, and it has facetime, the only draw back is you don't want mama walking behind the person doing the Face Time with her flapping bathrobe! Don't ask me how we know this, please!

December 26, 201411 yr Author  Yep, the first three emoticons is what the person on the other end of the Face Time was doing, the 4th emoticon was me and mama, and our girl.
December 27, 201411 yr I give gifts to children. I don't expect them to reciprocate, but I am filled with warmth when they have made something with their hands and minds to give to me. Those things always find a place. The rest of the crud I would prefer top be left out of. Bah Humbug
December 27, 201411 yr What a Grinch that Cliff guy is. Boy I'll say! Ya stopped this discussion cold in its tracks! It's all good Cliff, my dad is the same way, he lives up in the mountains and he just prefers to be left alone for the seasonal stuff, he'll shut his phone off, and he'll hold up in his shop and just tinker. Everyone has their own way of bringing in the seasons, there is no wrong or right way.
January 17, 201511 yr I know its a bit late but, I did make out pretty well for Christmas this year. I had a couple of orders to make which helped in that regard. It kept me from being bored for sure which leads to difficulty dealing with that time of year and being alone. for those that don't know, I lost my mother to an aneurism back in January of 1992, so Christmas has always been a bit hard ever since then unless I can find ways of being busy or with someone. I also did pretty well in the gift department. I went to Woodcraft's site, and got me an Easy Start Detailer from Easy Wood Tools. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the detailer if I wasn't going to use it for much more than making a few detail lines in wood & acrylic, well needless to say that the tool turns out to be a lot more useful than I ever imagined so I am looking forward to getting a bigger one later on. this little guy is pretty small, the shaft on it is only about 3 1/2" long except the part that is embedded in the handle. The entire tool is only 12.5" long so it's great for pens, and other small turnings that you want to detail, which is what i am mostly using it for anyway. I also got me a Micro mesh set, that i believe goes from 1500 grit all the way to 12,000 grit. Getting these tools from WoodCraft, also allowed me to help out our site here a bit which I am always glad to do when I can. I also got a Amazon gift certificate from my brother and sister this year and so I got me a set of collet chucks which consist of 5 chucks from 1/4 to 3/4". These are great for making duck calls and other calls as well as turning finials from pieces of dowel. I have a duck call I need to make still, so I will get to try it out in a few days, after i get done with a order of goodies for a FB friend. Anyway, yea I pretty well made out like a bandit this year thanks to a lot of people including family (extended and otherwise) Does anyone else feel a bit guilty when you get gifts from someone that you wished you could get a gift for but can't? I know I do, but then those are the people that also understand the situation we get into sometimes and would rather just see us being happy with what they got us. I have to think about that too sometimes. Anyway I'm not gonna get all wishy washy on yas. Hope you all had a great Christmas & whatever other holiday you celebrate. Perhaps I'll get to start turning more and be able to show off a few creations soon
