I've had my 18 volt Hatachi For about 3 years and it was really great. Light, powerful and quick recharge. Yesterday it quit. Just quit. Then got hot and started to smoke. I have 2 batteries and a flashlight that came with it. I thought about getting an exact replacement to have 4 batteries. So I did a lot of web searching and pricing. I stopped looking when I found an industrial  Porter Cable 20 volt with all the goodies on sale at Amazon. A $269 drill with 2 batteries and free shipping for $99

It will be here on the 16th......I'll let you know what I think, it had a ton of great reviews

Looking forward to the review Ron, and I am sorry for the short life span of that Hitachi, I have a Makita that has lasted for about 12 years so far, heavy use for 2/3 rds of that time, and running on one of the original two batteries it came with. I think they should last a lot longer then 3 years.

As for the free shipping for 99 bucks, are you referring to the Amazon Prime free trial?

The batteries on one of my Makitas, a big old 12 volt green one, died after maybe 12 years. Had them both rebuilt at Batteries + and they are better than new.

Unfortunately, Batteries + can't rebuild the 18v LI batteries in the newer Makita.

I've read nothing but glowing reviews of that PC, Ron. And, that's an excellent deal, too.

I have the same Hatachi drill, for about the same length of time. Maybe I should just get the Porter Cable while it's on sale.
