November 19, 201411 yr I was looking at the Rockler web site and saw that they had a set of three carbide turning tools on sale They were $60 off and now were $129. I tole my wife that I wanted them for Christmas and she said "Lets to get them" We did and I got their last set. I did get to play a while, but tomorrow I will get serious. So far they are great. http://www.rockler.com/carbide-mini-turning-tool-3-piece-set
November 19, 201411 yr I love the look of new hand tooling. Nice photo too Ron. Ron what size and use are those tools? Are those a mini set for turning pens and small bowls etc?
November 19, 201411 yr Author The tools are available in three cutting profiles: round, square and diamond-shaped. Total overall length of Mini Turning Tools is approximately 13-1/2". Ash handles are 9-1/2" long from the butt of the handle to the top of the stainless steel ferrule. Length of the shaft is approximately 4". Carbide cutters are not interchangeable between the different tools. Diamond Carbide Mini Turning Tool is ideal for use as a parting tool, and for tight profiles. Overall length of the diamond cutter is 1-1/8". Angle of diamond cutter is approximately 35 degrees. Square Carbide Mini Turning Tool is ideal for flat or convex areas on spindles and pen turnings. Square cutter is 3/8" square. Round Carbide Mini Turning Tool is ideal for producing a smooth finish on curved, concave surfaces and for general turning applications. Diameter of the circular cutter is just under 1/2" I think you could easily use them in a lot of applications. I'm not sure about pen turning. The diamond shaped one has a slightly rounded end and could be used a lot. The flat one can be use to cut in with its corner. You'll have to ask a pen turner, I have no experience in that craft
