October 16, 201411 yr I got a call Sunday afternoon to go and look at a couple of old wood working tools I really wasn't looking to buy them so I make a ridiculous low offer the the guy said sold. Wow! So I had to go pick the up and I have got to find a place to put them. I also picked up a 1 HP Delta dust collector. Things just keep finding me.
October 16, 201411 yr Wow John! Love them both, but my favorite is that RAS! I love those old timey RAS's. As a matter of fact, I have often thought how cool it would be to have an RAS back in my shop, I grew up on one in dads shop, I loved them.
October 16, 201411 yr Author Well if we can get it out there I would make you a deal. It is a Delta Rockwell and has the metal cabinet under it. It looks like a nice saw. I haven't even plugged it up yet. Still on the trailer under a tarp. Just as we got home the weather turned bad and I had to cover it and leave it. They were asking $350.00 for the RAS. I made a way, way less offer. The jointer is a 1947 model Craftsman and it is heavy! Top is in great shape and has the original motor I believe.
October 16, 201411 yr Those jointers are beauties when restored, that diamond pattern treatment on the end of the jointer really stands out when cleaned up, are you going to refinish one or both John?
October 16, 201411 yr The jointer is identical to the one I picked up a few years ago. It was built when Craftsman still meant something.
October 16, 201411 yr Great score John! Two great old machines. After a rehab, both will be show pieces and users.
October 16, 201411 yr Author I would love to restore them both, but I am not sure I have the time. If I found someone that would restore them I would make them a deal.
October 16, 201411 yr John, I sent a message to a guy I know in MS who might be interested in restoring those tools and trading his labor for one of them. We'll see if he responds and then I'll put you two in touch.
October 16, 201411 yr Author John, I sent a message to a guy I know in MS who might be interested in restoring those tools and trading his labor for one of them. We'll see if he responds and then I'll put you two in touch. Thanks Gene.
October 16, 201411 yr He responded and said that after the first of the year would be good for him, if you can wait. He just got moved into a new house and shop and I know he's doing a lot of repairs and building. If you are still interested in having him do the job, please PM me a contact # and I'll give it to him.
October 17, 201411 yr Author When are you going to start on the workshop addition Not sure Lew, But I may have to think about adding on soon! My wife's first words were, "Where are you going to put those?" My response was a shrug of the shoulders!
