Fall will begin officially on Monday and you can already tell the cooler air has started to move in. I love the early mornings this time of year. Blue skies and just enough of a chill in the air to make sitting outside with a morning cup of coffee nice.

Since I am waiting on the blades for my joiner to come in we will switch gears and work on some of the other projects that are stacking up in the shop.

I will be getting the panels cut and glued for the Breakfast table that is being made from some old church pews.

I have several of these stored at the Wood Stash. This is only one. It was 16' long and this.

The other part of this one is in the garage and will make the cover for a built in bench that will go in the corner when the table is delivered.

So we are leaving the finish as much as possible just like it is for the top. There is a nice story to these pews. The church they came out of was about to have to shut the doors. they were down to about 10 members and the youngest was in his mid 60's. A former pastor of out church that now works for the State Association called our church about taking over this church and helping them get back on their feet. So we have and it is now growing and has about 60 members. So the client that I making the breakfast table for is the daughter of the former pastor that help to save the church. When our church took over the operation they remodeled and a few of the pews were taken out. I was offered them and of course I don't turn down lumber so I got them and stored them. So what a perfect fit for her to have these pews from a church her dad help to save as the top of her breakfast table. Now it just doesn't get any better than that.

So this weekend I will get them glued together to make the 48" square top.

What is really fitting is the table was to be made from reclaimed material and this fits perfect. They have a lip on the edge that I will have to cut off and yes it has nails in it. They cut a dado in the lip and slid the panels into it. So an old blade will come out and rip this off. So this will get us going Saturday morning.

I am also working on a project for someone that came by the shop Monday night. He is wanting a lectern made from a tripod. He said he was into old camera's but any tripod would work. So Tuesday on my way to work I stopped off at this flea market they have close to down town every Tuesday. I walk up and the first thing I see is this surveyors tripod.

I took a picture and sent it to him and he said it would be perfect once it was cut down a little. I purchased it for 10.00 and it is wooden with the metal feet on it. What a deal. So I will be working on the design for this also this weekend. I just love the projects that keep on coming.

I also have one more of the Polka Dot Cutting boards to finish and one to add feet for a customer.

So this is a busy weekend in my Patriot Woodworker shop, What are you working on? We here at TPW love to see the projects you are working on and share in the progress as you build the projects. You might just inspire someone else to give it a try. So come on and share with us here in the thread what you are working on this weekend, ever if you are just going to be watching some football on TV. I got to get me a TV in the shop.

Well let's hear about those projects and I am off to work and picking up a log to take to the mill after work. Catch you all later....

well not much this weekend just finish up instalation on ceilings, maybe build small house for my dog,he is the only male dog in house (have 5)an the girls drive him batty,he goes into carrier but think i will make him his own little escape pad like his Daddy (i run an hide in shop)so i feel for him, cant bring him in shop cause he dosent like the noises

You guys make me look like a slug!

I am trying my hand at some turned "garlic peeler". My sister sent me a link she found and said that any Italian kitchen would be incomplete without one. I think it was a hint from her husband.

Pappa, I know what you mean about the noise and the dog. Quigley lays at the top of the steps and cries, but he won't come down- even if he does, as soon as I start making noise, he leaves.

Nothing woodworking related going on for me as we have been too hot in the garage and I have just been too lazy to get much stuff done.

John, I have worked with church pews before and still have a 2 nice pieces of white oak church pews that came out of an old Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles. The pews were installed in 1900 and when it was renovated in the late 1990's they were removed. My old neighbor worked doing restoration and repairs of bench and panel work predominantly in churches and court houses. He saw me in my garage working on a project and told me to stop by his shop and he would give me a bunch of old pews. So I went by and got a bunch of them and split them with another friend of mine who was a wood shop teacher. I took them all over to his school and the we milled them down into usable lumber. The hardest part was having to scrape off all the chewing gum that was stuck on the underside of the pews. It was rather comical that after scraping of the gum that while running them through the planer you could still smell the mint in the gum. I made a number of things with those old pews including a stand for our church at the time to hold bulletins and programs. I also used some to make a large display case for my great grandfather's tools.

I'll be getting started on repurposing this desk.

It was made by the W.D. Allison Co. of Indianapolis Indiana.

I'll be repurposing it to house my computer that I am rebuilding "Steampunk" style.

The main (center monitor) will be housed in this opening.

Looks like you got the images in fine Larry! Great job!

That's darn cool Larry.  I don't believe I've ever seen a tambour door run sideways.  As for me, I'm helping my son build a side table for his house.

How big a table does his house need?

Ron,

It was a first for me when I saw it myself.

The tambour doors need repair also, the fabric backing has given way in a few spots.

It is only 24 by 30 John.  They have a lab and a boxer and this will have a cushion to act as a boost into the bay window.  The dogs are beating the couch to death right now.

Hi guys looks like a few great projects underway. I'm feeling pretty chipper these days, which is a good thing since I got a rather tall order (for me anyway) the other day and will be working on that this weekend. It will consume the entire weekend.

I have 20 sewing needle cases, 10 Seem rippers and a fire starter handle to make and put together.

Lucky for me, all of this isn't needed until Dec 1, so I have a bit of time to work on it :) This by far is the biggest order I have ever had. If I could get 1 of these orders each month, I'd be set for a while LOL.

I believe I have already posted the fire starter so I will show an image or 2 of the seem rippers I have completed already (3). So I have 7 more to do.

I have 20 of these to do, a sewing needle case, this one was made last year but is just to show what some look like.
