March 12, 201115 yr CHANGED PLANS - have to re-grout the tile shower in my house. I noticed last night there is a LOT of grout missing so it's not the sort of thing a handyman wants to go un-attended. Sure would like to get into the shop though.
March 13, 201115 yr Congrats on the Unisaw, I love mine and wouldn't part with it except I wish I had gone with the 32" rip vs the 52".I'll be completing my end grain cutting board and probably buying the Triton 3.25 hp router.

March 13, 201115 yr Author Sounds like we have lots of folks working on lots of nice projects. We need to see some progress pictures on these starting the first of the week. You know the saying, no pictures it didn't happen. I am looking forward to seeing all of this work.
March 13, 201115 yr 1:20 AM - turned the clocks back at 2:00. ANd I was FORCED to go to a community choir concert this afternoon so wasn't on line like I would have preferred. I'll be sleeping it off later when sleep deprivation torcher catches up to me.John Morris said: Congrats John!!! March 14, 201115 yr Well...never did get to color matching to my drawers. As I get older, I think its called, "prioritizing" your time better So Saturday, I prioritized, and did as my Wife told me to do Today had a case of dead a__ and didn't do much. However I do need to come up with a pediment for my Lowboy...but my heart wasn't into it. In my head, I think I found my shape. However between my knee blocks and a few practice pediments...I 'm running out of scraps, so I need to quit fooling around! I glued up a piece of 2x4 and will turn a few more samples later this week and see what I can come up with. Ace HoleInOne said: Spray dye on the inside of some drawers I constructed with a mix of maple heart and sap wood. Should be fun, I did a pretty spiffy job of matching the sapwood to the heartwood, took me the better of one whole evening to get recipe right!  Then on to some sanding.  -Ace-
March 15, 201115 yr Got my MOJO back so I fussed around in the shop tonight and turned a pediment. For now, its stuck on with double face tape. So there!!!!...Finally got something done.  Can you tell where my inspiration came from? Sorta looks like an air fitting at the bottom....don't tell  -Ace-
March 15, 201115 yr Ace...........I do not have much of an imagination sometimes...........so when I post my box.........which I hope is tomorrow...............I really want your constructive critacyzm (sp)...........because IMHO, you have to many pediments. I think you should change your drawer handle to something else. Other'n that.............it looks great.Ace HoleInOne said: Got my MOJO back so I fussed around in the shop tonight and turned a pediment. For now, its stuck on with double face tape. March 15, 201115 yr Yep, great looking Ace! Gary carries a good point on the drawer handle, maybe something straight, to compliment the heavy curves on the piece? It sure is one hockey sticks of a good looking piece of case work Ace. Up there with the best.
March 15, 201115 yr  Having just picked myself off the shop floor after a good cry... That seems to be the reaction, everyone wants to see Chippendale pulls. We have and old wash basin (I think that is what they are called) and have the exact (sorta) pulls and we are matching those.  -Ace-      Â
March 15, 201115 yr Well that's a completely different story then ACE! In that case, what a cool match! Now that you put the reason for those pulls in context, it really really makes sense. Great job! Ace HoleInOne said:  Having just picked myself off the shop floor after a good cry... That seems to be the reaction, everyone wants to see Chippendale pulls. March 15, 201115 yr Hi Ace, the pediment looks good. I like the air fitting part. You could make it a true "art" piece by adding the hose to it  bob
March 15, 201115 yr Author Hey Ace, have I missed the picture of the whole piece? I would love to see the entire piece posted if possible. I like the pulls and it does make more sense since you said you were trying to match something.
March 15, 201115 yr Ok.............here it is!!!! In all it's glory. I'm almost ashamed to show this to the world of woodworkers. It came together, but I think it is downright U G L Y !!!!! On the plus side, this was the first time I have used the quadrant hinge.....having to make mortise's at a right angles plus a mortise for the stopper mechanizm. Oh ya......the box and apron are walnut the top and legs are teak. Ace...........have at it sir.
March 15, 201115 yr Author Very nice Gary. I love the way you did the roll on the ends and the miter corners. I think the bottom looks a little heavy for the size of the box, but that's IMHO. I like the soft finish. I have never used those hinges, but I like them. I bet they are a bear to install.
