Quest Machine Found ... Oscillating Spindle Sander

Featured Replies

Shane,

Nice looking OSS! I am sure you will do it proud.

You mentioned all the accessories etc being present on the machine AND its being from a school.  My experience with school machines has been that most of the small removable or accessory parts have all walked down the hall when the dismissal bell rang.

Glad to see your experience was better than mine.

Shane, nice finds on those OSS. I'm sure they will look first class like all your stuff does. I would love  to land one of those to compliment my little Homecraft 81/2" disc sander. Not sure I need one quite that big though, but hey, that's what mobile bases are for right?

Dan,

I have one of these Porter Cable sanders up in the mezzanine. I got it about five years back and was never able to come up with any spindles for it. I've been waiting for another one to show up with the spindles. Other than the missing spindles, this is a great little sander. I did own a Max OSS a few years ago as well. It came out of Broyhill in NC. I called Tannewitz for a set of spindles. The price set me back on my heels and I decided to sideline it. A year later Tannewitz called me about a GHNE bandsaw I had for sale. I ended up getting a set of spindles as part of the sale price on the saw. I used that sander until I bought my Kindt Collins. It was a great little sander.

Shane,

I am behind on my posts on the forum, but I think you will like the Max.........that is until an Oliver comes along.

I have a couple duck footed Porter Cable / Syracuse oscillating spindle sanders, but one hasn't yet made it home from up around Chicago as Scott Andrews picked it up for me. He has one and is using that one for ideas on how to fix his and I took the other one apart that I have here and loaned the gear box / drive mechanism to him also to get the gears copied that he needs for to repair his. I am getting anxious to get them back home and restore em, but I have plenty to do ......ho ho.

For those that don't know what we are talking about when we mentioned the Porter Cable oss with the odd foot here is a picture of one and if you know of one please contact me as I could use an extra parts machine. Thanks

Arthur,

Thanks for the note and I will call you to see if you want to let loose of the Porter Cable as I could use a parts machine or perhaps fix it up with spindles.

Thanks ~ Dan

Hutch,

You're right, but that sander looks too good to use.
