It's Friday, Memorial Day Weekend, What's on your agenda?

Featured Replies

I have taken the day off today as I have been at work almost solid for the last 48 hours. Working on a project at work one night and then we hand storms and possible tornado's in the area on Wednesday night so it was back to work all night Wednesday night and all day Thursday.

So today, I am resting up a bit and getting a little bit done at home and ready for the weekend. Was to be on vacation next week but had to cancel that.

Since I haven't been in the shop since last weekend, I hope to finish these cabinets for the cabinet job. They are about ready for delivery and I am not ready.

Order the torsion hinges today for a couple of cedar chest that I hope to have finished by mid week for the First Friday Craft show.

Also going to try to get finished sanding my six cutting board so they will also be ready.

Then Monday is a day to spend with family and to remember the ultimate sacrifice our soldiers have made to insure us the Freedoms we have and enjoy. Yes there will be some grilling and eating, but lest we not forget why we stop and take this day, this weekend to remember those that gave it all for us.

John 15:13 Jesus says,     No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, get to spend some time with family, get to spend some time in the shop, and remember those that lay down their life for their friends

All things wood......

I have started the final sanding of my lowboy. 180 grit. I'm working the endgrain areas of the cabriolet legs, as well as, all endgrain, up to 320 grit paper.

Other than that...the rain we been having is to pass so yard work, some bbq...umm maybe a few ginger ales Grin.gif

Well said indeed!  Saturday is set aside for cemetery visitation.  Sunday, my son and I are headed to the Indy 500 as we have for the past 28 years (for him) 44 for me.  Monday, hopefully I can work on Mama's curio.  The raised panel doors and side panels are finished and now to make the base unit.  Here are the doors.  If the water warms up a little pool time with the grand younguns.

P.S. I have the greatest wife on earth.  Sunday is our 41st anniversary and I'm going to the race.  What a gal!

Sounds good Ace. I finally got some yard work done today. It has either been raining or I was at work for the past two weeks. I was afraid I needed a hay baler for the yard.  Grin.gif

Have a great weekend and keep us posted on the Lowboy

Great looking doors Ron. Sounds like you have a full weekend lined up. Okay, I am going to have to add the Indy 500 to my bucket list. It sounds like it would be fun. I have never been to a big race of any kind. Hope the weather is good for you and your son.

I'm working at my day job this week end. Off Monday though. So Monday will be spent in prayer and rememberance of the fallen. Working on the yard and gardens. Maybe set something up on the smoker for a feast. Just in general relaxing and playing the dogs.  If times permits I want to start on the doors for the train case. Hope eveeryone has a great week end no matter how it is spent.

You owe me a trip to the Hoosier Heartland John.  You come up and I'll treat you to the race.  I have five tickets every year.

eat meat, rest, eat meat, rest, drink, eat meat....

Believe it or not I'm spending the day making beer with my boys. The oldest is still active duty Army and the youngest did almost 6 years as an 11B. We are blesses to have them both home and will be hoisting tributes to those currently serving, the fallen and of course all our fellow veterans. God bless

No shop time today but this is what we saw.

Wow what a busy weekend. Got all four of the cabinet carcasses glued up. Got to get the edge banding on the front sides now and build the door frames.

While I was waiting on a cabinet to dry and free up the clamps and work space, we washed the deck today. That turned out to be a bigger job than I was really ready for. But I am glad it is done.

Started to route the dovetails in the cedar chest and got about four pins routed and the router bit twisted off just below the bearing. So I guess I will be ordering a new dovetail bit in order to finish that project. I will be calling Peachtree Woodworking tomorrow to see what they say about the bit. I have only made three chest with that bit, so you would think it would last longer than that since it has only been used on cedar.

Also got the six cutting boards sanded and branded. Not as many as I wanted to get ready for First Friday but I will take what I have.

Hope you had a great weekend. Got some shop time and took a some time to thank those that paid the ultimate price for freedom.

John, you were a busy man between the equipment swithover at work and getting stuff done in the shop! Glad you made it through relatively unscathed?

We did our Memorial Day get together on Saturday with my old Army buddy and his wife, they are dear friends of ours. He was in the same platoon as I was in Panama from 89 to 91. He is the only one I have kept in touch with since. His wife and my wife are great friends, and when we all get together we talk about the crazy double dates we had when we were younger and the guys we knew who were in our company and platoon. Reminiscing about those days never gets old. We break out pictures too sometimes.  Just good fun.

Today my family spent the day in reflection, thinking of those who lost their lives protecting ours, and praying.

I hope you had a safe and sane day John, and everyone else. Well, safe anyways!

Now I gotta go and change things around on the site and get this place back to woodworking!

Got back from the show. It was a long 2 days. Sales were down from last year, but had 25 % less artists this year. Not sure why?  I did win "best in show" which I never expected. That was nice. Have 3 pieces to get done and ship before the next show in July. Plus I have some tables to do. I heard lots of interesting stuff during the show. It will be interesting to see if I get any work from the people who say they want things. That is always the key for me.

Bob, congratulations on the Best of Show! Great job. Which one won best of show?

Congrats Bob!  Do you have a photo?

My overall work won, I guess. The judge was very overwhelming in her comments. I am not used to hearing all that nice stuff.

Did have a lady tell me I had much better finishes and wood selection then her Nakashima table and other pieces. That was nice. I think my wife took some shots on saturday, but I have no idea where they are now. I hope all the people who asked about doing things , get back to me. Heck 10% would be good. You just never know, I guess.

Bob

Congrats on "Best in Show". I hope you get the orders and the work.
