July 17, 201115 yr comment_43498 good to know. I've been planning on making one myself (for personal use). I made a practice one out of a pine dowel. The biggest trouble I had was keeping the taper smooth along the length, especially since I only have a 6" tool rest. Report
July 17, 201115 yr Author comment_43497 I had posted a blog here at one time on making these including how to make a jig to get the taper correct.  think it must have gotten deleted, as I have been unable to pull it up. Anyway, you can make a template, from a piece on plywood/Masonite, that has the taper you want. I used a thin (1/8")  x 1" wide and about 24" long straight grained cutoff to create/trace the arc on a piece of  1/4" plywood. Then cut/sanded the arc to create the template. Then it was just a matter of turning the diameters at the center and both ends. Then slowly turning away the material between the diameter cuts checking the progress with the template. Later I made a duplicating jig/assembly so I could produce them quicker.LewJustin Hughes said:good to know. The center mark aligns the template with the knot crossing center and the length helps determine the layout length. Justin Hughes said: A template.
