September 16, 201114 yr A couple days ago I deleted the discussion "Just Curious" that was originally posted by Lew Kauffman. The original post that Lew had put up was an innocent question, he was inquiring about another woodworking site rep that signed on here and then was gone. Without going into detail about the why's and how's of a particular episode that happened between myself and the other woodworking website, I am here to discuss why the post was deleted. Normally what I will do is inform the original poster of the deletion and why. I failed to do so in this instant, so I am sorry Lew that your post disappeared without any explanation. The reason it was deleted had nothing to do with our member Lew Kauffman, his OP was fine. But towards the end of the post it started taking a bad turn, and folks (not Lew) were starting to get a little rough towards another woodworking site and the representative who came here for a short spell. We had a similar incident like this a year ago, and I had to delete that discussion as well. As a policy, we don't like to entertain threads of discussions that contain negative commentary towards other Woodworking Social Websites. No matter what transpired between myself, and another woodworking website, this should have nothing to do with how we conduct ourselves here on our site. In a nutshell, I stepped in a pile of manure at another site, I can claim a pretty good amount of the responsibility for what transpired, and some of our spirited members rallied around TPW and defended our colors. While I appreciate the gesture, we really need to stay above the fray on stuff like this. We are all in this together, our site, other woodworking sites, we are all silent partners in this website stuff. And we love to have happy coexistence with these sites as well. TPW has no ill feelings towards any woodworking site, or the folks who run the sites. I have been in personal contact with owners of other woodworking sites and we all seem to have one thing in common, we love woodworking, and we love to have members on our site who love woodworking. Pure and simple.Folks, I work a 10 hour day (thank God I have a job!), Mon thru Thursday, and sometimes we work our Fridays off, my full time job as a Land Surveyor takes me all over the county, and our work is pretty rough at times, we are construction surveyors, it's summer, we are working in triple digit temps all day long, I leave home for work around 5am and I arrive home at 5:30pm. I am beat, and when I come on here, and see something like that, I act quickly, and sometimes I act without all my noodles in place, usually coming here is the first thing I do after I give my wife and kids a big hug and ask them all how their day was, and I ask them all individually if they need anything from me right now. When I am all cleared, I come on here, still dirty and sweaty from the day, and I read quickly through the posts and see what's gong on before I head up to the shower. The day I came home and saw what direction the Curious post was heading, I took action and deleted it. I went on to other business at hand, and completely forgot to email Lew about the deletion. And I completely forgot to post here and inform our valuable members about the deletion as well. This is our policy here at TPW, to inform all of you about the deletion and the why's for it. Sorry folks, it completely slipped my mind. Lew, if I offended you, please accept my apology.I hope this clears up some concerns here. I can literally count on one hand the posts the I have had to delete here at TPW in the last 18 months. It really takes a lot to have a post deleted, we don't like to do it, and we take it very seriously when we do.If you all haven't figured out by now folks, I am just winging this stuff as we go. I never took a website building class, I never took a class on how to run a forum, I am learning all of this as I go, just as some of you are learning all about woodworking as you go. I make mistakes, some big, some small, some I would rather forget, and some that folks won't let me forget. I have two goals here at TPW, first, to make you all as happy and comfortable as possible, and second, helping our fighting men and women who protect us from the bad guys every day, through our fundraising efforts with The Wounded Warrior Project. We don't get paid for this, we don't get material goods in exchange for services, we are completely independent, and we depend on you guys for great content and the exchange of ideas in woodworking and to form a camaraderie. In other words, thanks for being here, and please know, I will stumble from time to time, but I'll always get right back up and to the business at hand to keep this place as interesting as possible for you all. Thanks to all, and especially thank you to my forum hosts and helpers for if it wasn't for them, I could not do all this alone. Thanks guys.  John MorrisThe Patriot Woodworker
