October 31, 201114 yr Author I was overly zealous with my first plate and went right through the bottom - resulting in a large hole.  It's posted on this forum somewhere - hopefully buried.  So technically, this one is my second plate.  Regarding the new random 13 1/4 inch diameter - only time will tell.  We shall see if the woodworking spirits are smiling on me.  But thanks for the vote of confidence.   I'm on vacation this week, so I'm warning everyone, I might be a pest on here.   SQ Arlin Eastman said: Sue If this is your first plate and you did so well, I do not know if I will be able to look at the new one you are working on. ;>) Arlin
October 31, 201114 yr Author  I'm not quite ready to admit all.  You guys will really laugh at me when you find out what I'm doing.  But it's working really well.  Maybe I should sell this secret.  ROFL. SQArlin Eastman said:Make her sing Mike, Make her tell everything. October 31, 201114 yr My method for turning bowls is to cut a recess in the bottom of my blank and using my expansion jaws to grasp it. Â This one is my first platter; just turned it recently: Â Â Semper fiwww.swearingen-turnings.com
October 31, 201114 yr Sue, very nice looking platter/plate. Not sure if you missed any rules, but looks like you might be writing a few new ones. Very nice lines on the side and I like how it comes up into the thin lip on the sides. Very graceful. May I say you have done well!!! John Moody John Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
November 1, 201114 yr Author Jason, Â Very nice piece! I like the way you rounded the outside. Â I don't have anything fancy like expansion jaws, so I use a glue block. Â What kind of wood is that?
