January 13, 201214 yr Author   I've been a bit delayed in the final stages of the board. I had 4 days of medical appointments so I wasn't able to glue up the final assembly. I built a clamping board using the same principle as the triangle jig I showed earlier. It's 24" X 24" made of MDF with 2 pieces laminated for the base and the straight edge and bolt cawl made from material salvaged from an old piano. All wood surfaces that may come in contact with glue are covered in packing tape. I also used 2 pieces of 3/8" thick plastic cutting board and a fabrick cutting mat donated by the wife. The mat and plastic material are great because glue wont stick to their surfaces. I also built a vertical clamping system to keep the glue up flat. I used UNI-STRUT cut into sections with small wood blocks and "T" nuts with 1/4" bolts and nylon acorn nuts. This rig is attached to my work bench through the dog holes on the bench. It works pretty well. I welcome all comments, questions and ideas. Thanks for viewing. I hope to run it through the drum sander tomorrow morning.  Â
January 13, 201214 yr Wow, you have really got this down to a science. As a matter of fact, it looks like a science project. I love the way you have figured all of the gluing out. Awesome Mike. That is going to be one fantastic 3D cutting board. Thanks for all of the pictures and details of what you are doing.John MoodyJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
January 13, 201214 yr Author Thanks John!I have enjoyed this project more than any other. I enjoy solving problems and finding better ways of doing things. I hope the finished product is as good as the tools I built to get me here. I'll post pics of the final piece in a few days or so. I had hoped to be finished by now but last month I was diagnosed with Diabetes and have been attending classes to learn how to deal with it so that has delayed me for a bit. The next board shouldn't take me long at all. I now have 3 orders for this board. and a lot of pens to turn.John Moody said:Wow, you have really got this down to a science. January 14, 201214 yr Author Down the home stretch. I've trimmed the board close to the final dimension, run it through the drum sander 80 and then 100 grit then sanded 120, 150 grit with RO sander. I'll route the edges to 30 deg and apply the first coat of oil tomorrow.  http://thepatriotwoodworker.com/forums/uploads/ning-dscn0061-36086-75.jpg
