Friday, February 3rd, What's on your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Okay, we have one down and eleven more to go in 2012. Wow can you all believe we finished the month of January that quick? I don't know about where you all are, but here we have been have the best weather. I am afraid it is going to bite us soon, but today it was 50 degrees when I got up and it is going to be close to 70 today. About 15 degrees above normal for here. I've got on a short sleeve shirt here in Winter.

So this weekend I have the Cedar Chest all finished and ready for pickup or delivery. If it is not raining it should be out of the shop this weekend. After the problem with the small pin size vent hole on my spray gun, the spray went on very nicely and looks good. Pictures tomorrow when I get the hinges re-installed.

So I am a month away from Craft show season picking up. I will be starting on cutting and gluing cutting boards tomorrow. Got to get a few pens turned and now with a new scroll saw, I have got to see if I can't add a few items to the booth. So I will be spending some time with the Scroll Saw to get aquainted

I also want to lay out and cut some of the knock down rocking chairs from the templates from Allen Worsham. So I have a quite ambitious agenda for the weekend and will just have to see what all I get to do.

What about you, what is on your agenda this weekend? Woodworking, cleaning the shop, HDL (Honey Do List), home improvement or just relaxing and getting ready for the Super Bowl Party?

We want to know, so let us know what you are doing and post some pictures of your projects.

Today will be exciting. I can't wait. Will be taking my band saw table off and shimming it. I've only had this saw since 1975. It's always needed this modification. I've put it off long enough, I guess.

It was designed so that the blade is canted backwards. That is, the blade contacts the wood at the bottom instead of at 90*.

Has been an annoyance for over 30 years.

Right on Charles! Now get back to work! It's been too long hasn't it?

I will be working on more pens as I get time and a few magnets too. Ordered more magnets today that should be here by mid next week. Also have some hair pins to do similar to this one. My client wants these a bit longer than this one though.

Still getting ma squared away this weekend, but hopefully this Sunday I'll get some down time and get to tinker with my OWWM Walker Turner DP.

Still working on rolling pins. Was not a productive week in the shop. Also, started planning/designing/making the Router Lift from ShopNotes Vol 21, issue 121. Don't have your typical router table so figuring out how to mount their lift to my table has been a challenge.

I looked that over Lew, it looks like a neat project. I know if you jump on it you will keep a nice pictorial of the steps to share with us.

Maybe this will be a more productive week.

Isn't that the way it is Gene? We will put up with something for all that time and not take the few hours to go ahead and make it right. I am right there with you. Have done it many times and then when I finally fix it, I think, that wasn't so bad after all.

Best of luck with it.

John, maybe you will get caught up enough to get a little down time and some up time in the shop.

Thanks, John. The router table is ripped out now and waiting on some bolts from Fastenal. Big box doesn't carry the size needed.

'and may the road raise up to meet ye'

planning on cleaning the chinmey in my shop, hopefully i'll get to do some more work on the ceiling on my shop addition(insulation and sheathing), going to be a nice weekend so i'll probably cook on the grill again, maybe go to a homestead nearby that im the caretaker for and plow into it so i can start doing some more work there, i'll keep everyone posted

John

I thought it 2012 not 2011.  It doesn't matter to me.  I really don't  keep track of time when I'm home.  Got started building a out feed table for the Grizzly table saw.  Actually I think it be more of a cabinet.  Put the saw to work on cutting out pieces from half  sheet of 3/4 inch plywood.  That something I never could do on old saw.  Then cut a rabbit cut on one end for the 2 sides.  I started humming Dixie.  Since I'm having 4 drawers on this at least 2 on each end, I figure I'll need  something to support the sides.  I then cut a dado down the middle of each side so I can put a middle panel.  Now I' dancing.   Not sure If I'll get much done on it this weekend.  Saturday is my wife birthday and not sure how she want to celebrate.  Did get a little work on the cub scout project today.  Hopefully can get some more done on it this week end.

Below is part of what I got done on cabinet.

got the chimney cleaned this morning, it was a balmy 8 degreees out.  then my son and i started working on the ceiling in the shop addition, got the rest of the ceiling insulated and sheated.  next finish the end walls and figure out what to do with the extra space.

It wouldn't take me long to fill the extra space. It seems that I keep filling my space and the walls need to move.

Well I spent the day making cutting boards. Five in the first glue up.

Hoping to get a lot done for 14 center pieces for my church's valentines day lunch and movie day after service next week. They are all crosses with hearts in them ans stand on a heart shaped base. Pics to follow when I get to that point.

How about a progress report on your weekend projects of shop time.

I got five cutting board in the final glue up this weekend. They will be ready to start sanding this week. I hope to get five more cut out this week and in the clamps as I am sanding these.

I had another craft show on saturday. Sure wish I had a dollar for every time I heard "beautiful work" but it was stil an ok showing.

Today I took the time to sleep in (attempting to get over a chest cold) then in the afternoon I casually built 2 short stock bins. After filling them I realize I should've made 3 but I didn't buy enough plywood. Oh well, another project for another day!
