Friday, February 24th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda this Weekend?

Featured Replies

Well I as sit down to post this thread I was looking at the calendar and realized that this coming week we have an extra day we don't usually get. Did you realize this was leap year? I mean that gives us one more whole day this year to work in the shop that we haven't had in, oh the last three years.

Knowing that you have all of that extra time, what are you working on this weekend?

Last night I glued up five cutting boards so this weekend I will be getting them sanded, branded and oil applied. I also plan on gluing up another five in the first glue up. My craft show season begins next Friday, so I am working hard to get my inventory ready for the display table.

I have also got to get a few more pens turned and hope to get a few other items finished up.

Now what am I going to do on Wednesday to take advantage of that extra day?

Oh well while I am thinking about that, what are you going to be working on this weekend. Are you in the shop, working on home improvement, HDL (honey do list), golfing or just laying around relaxing? You know inquiring minds want to know what you have on your agenda this weekend, so come on, share it with the rest of us.

Since I finally got those 10 frames done and delivered to the church, I can move on to some other things. I have to paint up 2 of my kids ricking chairs as a silent auction donation to 'Corona Life Services" which is a Christian Pro-Life crisis pregnancy center. They have their annual CLS Banquet which is their biggest fundraiser for the year. I have made and donated other things over the year so I am giving them a couple of rocking chairs. So I have to get those painted in a 4 color pattern (bright glossy red, blue, yellow and green) and drop them off next week as the event is on Saturday March 3rd.

Finishing the coin challenge holder and getting it ready to send to John. The basement is cold so the poly is drying very slow.

John,  I hadn't realized that this is a leap year.  As for the weekend, Saturday will be spent building cherry pocket watch cases and then celebrating my grandson's birthday.  Sunday is going to be worship day and loaf day....in that order.

Don't forget that NASCAR is back and Sunday will be the "Daytona 500" which is the first official race of the year. Grin.gif

The lady said to bring the truck, and trailer. She said that there is a few pickup truck loads to be hauled away!

With the truck, and trailer I can get about 4 pickup loads in one trip!

Well, I do have to say that it appears that NASCAR did pretty good in their changes to limit the 2 car draft on the restrictor plate tracks. The racing in the "Shoot Out" as well as the 2 qualifier races were really good as was the truck race last night. I am looking forward to the last weekend in March as NASCAR will be coming to Fontana in So. Calif. for the race. I always go on the Friday qualifying day and walk around and shoot a bunch of pictures. My back can't handle race day sitting in the stands, so I soldier through watching it at home from the recliner on the DVR after church.

Not much on my list. I'm laid up with pulled muscles in my back.

Since it's Saturday, guess I'm a bit late with this post.  Had planned to make a cherry bowl and a walnut bowl today, but due to some very deep cracks in both pieces of wood this weren't possible.  Finally decided to cut this wood into strips and laminate the strips so I could make a bowl.  Here is one possible future bowl using walnut, cherry, and maple if I don't entirely rework the design which is always possible.  Grin.gif

Finally finished the project for the local cub scout  last Sunday and they came pick it up this morning.  Got back to my cabinet that be used as out feed table.  Got the face frame done last week and then got started on the 4 drawers.  I ponder on how I would make them this time until I saw a post for miter gauge extension.  Sorry forget who posted it.   Decided in trying to do them as a box joint.  Never could do on the old table saw due to do being able to used dado blades.  Had a ball making it this way on the Grizzly.  Tomorrow before I go to work, I'll do the dado cut for the drawer bottom and hopefully assemble the drawers.  Hummmm.  Box joint capabilities.  Seeing some doors opening on that idea.
