Dear Patriot Woodworkers

John Morris

Hello, my name is John Morris. Founder of The Patriot Woodworker. Well, it's been awhile since we put out a news letter of what The Patriot Woodworker Community has been up to so we thought it would be a great idea to get one out to our members and friends! There has been much that has happened since our last news letter from New Years. We have some new members who have joined us, our site is becoming more visible amongst the woodworking world and our involvment with our charities is starting to ramp up once again. So without further ado, let us fill you all in on some of the happenings at The Patriot Woodworker!

Our Affiliate Woodcraft

Woodcraft.com

Please visit our affiliate Woodcraft for your woodworking supplies and tools. Woodcraft is our premier affiliate on The Patriot Woodworker. We reviewed many retailers and Woodcraft is the one we chose to bring aboard with us. Why? Simple, they openly support our American Military. What a perfect partnership this is. When you click on any Woodcraft banner at the Patriot woodworker and make a purchase through their site, we gain a small commission that is used to help defray the costs of running The Patriot Woodworker and is also used to help our troops.

Our Newest Members

First we would like to welcome our newest members. Recently we have been growing at a pretty steady rate! And this is great news! So, from all of us to all our newest members, Welcome to The Patriot Woodworker! We are so pleased you have come aboard and made us a part of your day, if even for a brief moment in time. We are thrilled you all have decided to jump in and help us make our community one of the best woodworking sites on the web. Afterall, we are woodworkers with a cause.

If anyone would like to surf on over and check out some of our newest members go to Our Patriot Woodworkers and visit them and welcome them to our site. Amongst a few of our new members are Shaun Long of San Jose CA, Gabriel Morosanu all the way from Romania, John Stroebel from Laramie WY,  Frieda Van Dam from Putte, Belgium. Cliff from Hampton, NJ. Josh Stewart, a Navy man from San Diego CA and John Pasch from Virginia Beach FL.

Please use our Invite Feature on The Patriot Woodworker and invite all your friends to come over and check us out.

Again folks, welcome to The Patriot Woodworker!

New Sites We Have Found

While visiting a clients home the other day he showed me his incredible hand tool collection of wood planes, shaves, profiles and other wonderful tools around his home. While musing over his incredible tool collection he got to talking about a club he belongs to. The Gristmill. It's a mid-west tool collectors club and auctioneers of those same fine tools. I am joining up now to get their quarterly publication of tool auctions and events. It's a wonderful out fit and I would like to encourage all hand tool junkies to join up at The Mid-West Tool Collectors Association or otherwise known as the Gristmill. I love this publication and club.  I learned the year of my sway back rip saw that Allen Worsham (one of our members) gave me by reading an article in the Gristmill about how to identify your hand saw. Let me just say, it's ooooold!

The Fine Tool Journal is also a wonderful publication of fine tools and auctions around the country. If you'd like, surf on over and check them out at Fine Tool Journal.

Our New Forum (The Rocking Chair Forum)

Hal Taylor

Mr Hal Taylor is a well known builder of fine furnishings and his trademark rockers. Hal and The Patriot Woodworker got together and we thought it would be really fun to create a forum for builders of rockers and sculpted furniture. For a glimpse into Hal Taylor's world of woodworking go see him in his shop at Hal At Work. While Hal respectfully pays homage on his site to the pioneer of sculpted furniture Sam Maloof, make no mistake, the design of Hal's Rockers are all Hal. I have studied under Hal for the last two and a half years and I have poured over his book on how to make a  rocker and he has inserted every bit of his own ideas and concepts into the creation of his rockers. They are uniquely Hal Taylor Rockers. He has clients around the world that order his rockers. His chairs have made an impact as far as Britain as is evidenced by a statement seen on Hal's own website at Rocking Chairs!

So please stay tuned as we work out the final details of our new "Rocker Forum". It is sure to be fun. Even if your not into building sculpted furnishings or a rocker, your sure to find something within the discussions that will help you along in your woodworking journey. The forum is up and live now, stay tuned for the discussions to start!

SQ, Amateur Gone Wild, or Pro?

Maple Bowl w/Inserts

If SQ has not turned pro yet, she will soon. Because her work would stand out at any craft fair, market, and competition in the country. Great job SQ! I fell in love with this bowl the moment I saw it. She scroll saws the parts first, glues em up, then turns them. See this spectaclular bowl at Maple Bowl with Walnut Inserts. The scroll saw bowls are catching on around our site. The Site Administrator John Moody is following suit. John has decided to emabark on Scroll Saw Bowls too! To see what John is up to please go see his discussion, "My First Scroll Saw Project".

Homes For Our Troops

logo3.155400.gif

We are getting the word out regarding ways our members can help Homes For Our Troops by volunteering locally. In many states there is a home project going up for a disabled veteran allowing our members to interact with the home building process from donating materials, to actually being a boot on the ground helping the folks out who are building the home.

This is a cause that is surely worthy of anyones time. For a list of homes that are being built in your area please go to the Dynamic Homes For Our Troops Map showing the locations of the current homes being built and you can also view the great work that has already taken place.

You can also go to Get Involved to discover more ways you can help our troops with the creation of their new home. There are many volunteer opportunities from beverage support (keeping the workers hydrated by maning the drink station), traffic control at the work site, media attendants and much more. You don't need money to help this great effort, all you need is to be able to donate some of your time.

And if your in the Southern California area, I hope you'll join my family in the build of Spc David Mayer's home in Corona Ca. They are in the second plan check for his home and ground breaking should be coming along shortly!

The Wounded Warriors Project

wwp_proudsupporter_vert_lores640x480.160

Our efforts supporting The Wounded Warrior Project have never been greater. We have just recently fired up our 4th Military Challenge Coin Display project! For our newest members who may not be familiar with our displays we build for the Wounded Warriors you can check it all out at The Challenge Coin Display Project page and you can join our current display build team in our Events section. You can also read about the details of our current display build campaign at 4th Military Challenge Coin Display Build. These displays are being shipped to our wounded troops at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio TX.

There are many ways you can help us build these displays even if you don't have the time to build any yourself. We are always looking for material donations for our builders to use and monetary donations to help defray the shipping costs of sending our displays to our warriors. If you'd like to help out, please contact our site administrator John Moody or myself John Morris or you can also place a secure donation at Support The Patriot Woodworker, all transactions are safe and private.

And plesae don't forget, if you'd like to support the Wounded Warrior Project or Homes For Our Troops with your monetary donation, please do so at the preceeding links. All donations to those two great organizations go directly to them through their servers.

We would like to thank all our members and visitors alike for your support in our causes, and your support of our site. As you all know, we are an all volunteer site, and we stay live with your help!

Thank You Patriot Woodworkers

So, that is about it for now folks. As always we would like to thank you all for being a part of our woodworking community and helping us set our bar high in the world of Woodworking Communities and online forums. I have been told by outsiders, that The Patriot Woodworker has the cleanest face when it comes to woodworking forums. What do you mean I ask. They reply, The Patriot Woodworker has no other motives but to help our troops. You are not profit driven, no underlying agendas, no secrets, your annual budget is out in the open for all to see. A clean face indeed they say. And, our members are just great folks! So thank you members for helping us maintain our clean image and for making our little corner of the world, a good place.
