Friday, June 8th What's on your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone what are you plans for this great June Weekend?

I am still working on porch swings and a few other projects in and around the house and shop. I have also been into full swing making cutting boards as I am in the midst of all the Craft Shows in the area. June 22nd - 24th, I will be in the Helen Keller Festival Arts and Craft show in historic Tuscumbia, Alabama.

Working on getting items ready for that and my next First Friday show in July. I have got to find some time to actually do some shop clean up. The sawdust is getting deep and I keep laying things down and can't seem to find them. Time to stop and re-group.

So what are you Patriot Woodworkers working on this weekend. You know us, we want to know what you are putting all of those wonderful tools in the shop to use on.

Are you woodworking, yard working, shop working or HDL, or maybe even some home improvement? Share with us your project and give us some progress pictures if you can. We love to see what you are doing.

My picture are coming as soon as the battery recharges in the camera. It died last night as I was getting setup to take pictures.

Just finished putting a load of mulch around the front of the house. I have some Maple rolling pin blanks the are sized and marked. Need to make the 1/8" inserts. Found some old Cherry when I cleaned up the wood rack- hope there is enough to make some inserts. Maple pins with Walnut and Cherry inserts look really nice.

Not much woodworking this weekend John, we just got back from the last of the grad ceremonies. My oldest girl had her Junior High Promotion yesterday, my youngest girl had her Grade School promotion today, we have a grad party to go to tomorrow afternoon, and my oldest daughter is leaving to Washington DC tomorrow on a week long whirlwind tour with about 2 dozen classmates. We are dropping her off at the Walmart nearby and from there they bus to San Diego Airport where they then leave for DC. They'll tour the capitol, Smithsonian, Gettysburgh, The Wall, Mt Vernon, all of it! I am so very jealous. And to top it all off, they are staying in several Marriott's along the way! Can you say awesome!  This is her promotion present from mom and dad. We saved all year for her to do this, I hope she brings back a ton of pics.
Then Sunday, well, we will rest, nuff excitement to last a few months.

I know alot of our Patriot Woodworkers have a ton of stuff going on! Lets hear what you all got on your bench!

Hope she enjoys the trip. At Gettysburg, she'll only be 25 miles from here!

Wow Lew! I wish there was a solid time agenda you guys could say howdy. She and her group are going to be on the Mid Night Gettysburg haunted tour of the battle field and cemetery. They will jump on a horse drawn hay ride through the park at midnight meanwhile a  narrator will be speaking about the park as they go. I am not sure how haunted it really is, but it sound fun for a bunch of 14 year olds.

There is some pretty "solid" evidence that some paranormal stuff takes place there- and not just at night.

Even the park tour guides talk about the stuff that happens around Devil's Den.

I'm in the wrong spot ! ! ! !  Should have headed to Ron's house with Greg.  Grin.gif

Actually, we are in a little town in the north Georgia mountains called Hiawassee.  Have a show here this weekend.  New show for us so we'll just have to wait and see how it is.  Anyhow, included a picture of our campsite.  And - it backs up to a little babbling brook.  should be great sleeping this weekend.

Didn't stay out too good, though.  Biggest "OH crud" incident I have had for quite a while.  Got in a hurry, just whipped the truck out of its parking spot and the edge of the garage jumped out and bit me.  How am I going to explain this to my insurance guy????  Thank goodness for heavy duty packing tape - would have used duct tape but that would have covered the lens.  Frown.gifFrown.gifFrown.gifFrown.gifFrown.gif

I hate those moving buildings Fred. You just never know when they will take a notion to change positions.

How close it that to Chattanooga?

If I remember correctly, they are the same folks who did my daughter's DC trip when she was in Jr. High. They did a great job with it and the kids had a great time and stayed safe. One thing to keep in mind is that their itinerary will be wound up tighter than a Swiss watch. Your daughter's school will not be the only one there as they will be having buses from schools all over the nation doing the dance around the monuments and museums. They will have very little time to themselves for doing stuff on their own.

Taking a lot of photos is definitely a must. Make sure that she has multiple batteries for the camera as well as multiple memory cards. The higher resolution she can shoot the better, but the less number of photos per card. Also make sure that she doesn't take nothing but funny photos if her friends and miss taking photos of the monuments and such.

I would love to be going back to DC. Tami and I love going there and could easily spend 2 weeks there and not see everything.

Thanks Allen, great advice, yeah the itinerary didn't look like you had much time to do anything but what they guide you through. I hope she has a great time, your recommendation is great to hear. And as far as the camera goes, thanks for the heads up! Great advice!
