August 24, 201213 yr Has this year flown by or what? We have almost finished the eight month and heading into the fall with football starting up, leaves to rake and for some of you snow on the ground soon.Shop time for me has been very limited here the past two months as I have been getting my parents house ready to sale. They have moved into an Assisted Living facility. It looks like we may be starting this weekend replacing the windows. After closer inspection we noticed a good bit of work would need to be done on the old windows and several of the old storm windows are broken and would need repair. I believe we can replace them with new double pane insulated windows with less work than trying to repair the old ones and have a better selling point on the house. So for me it looks like a weekend of changing out windows, caulking and painting the trim around them. Just 14 of them to do so I doubt I will get them all this weekend but I sure would like to.So how about the rest of you Patriot Woodworkers. What will be on your woodworking agenda this weekend? Are you in the shop building a nice project, working on getting the home front ready for winter, HDL, and just some good ole R&R? Here at The Patriot Woodworker we are interested in what you are working on and hope you will share you weekend projects with us.What ever you do have a safe and fun weekend.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com
August 24, 201213 yr Sounds like fun John! When ever I get the urge to paint I lay down until it passes. After the Wife's Kimo today I plan on starting a scales segmented pen blank that I saw on IAP. I'm in a pen turning mood this week.www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
August 24, 201213 yr We'd love to see it of course when it's done Mike.Myself I am in a pen and bowl making mood this week. I have a few pens to make but I also have 2 bowls I am in the process of getting parts made for a lid on each. One bowl is already partly turned, but as of this writing, I have no pictures to show. I should have some later today. The shape of the bowl changed a bit last night due to a natural decay of the wood in one spot which would have made the outside bottom.More later.Mike Dillen said:After the Wife's Kimo I plan on starting a scales segmented pen blank that I saw on IAP. August 24, 201213 yr Author I got started a few weeks back working on this chopping block or large cutting board. It belongs to a friend of mine who had purchased one of my cutting boards. He wanted to know if I could bring this one back to life. Of course I told him all of the marks and dings in it is what give it character. Well he wanted to give it new character. So I have started to work on it and will post some pictures of what it is starting to look like later this weekend. So for now here is the way it was when it was brought to me. I hope to get a little time to finish it up and get some pictures this weekend between installing windows. This is a great looking block. August 24, 201213 yr  I have the "Challenge" of turning a pile of rustiness...into a decent looking Stanley Bailey Type 11, Number 4.....The handles are just sitting there, awaiting bolts.   I have the rust removed, and the paint is drying in the afternoon sunshine...Might get things together after awhile.... 'and may the road raise up to meet ye'
August 24, 201213 yr Yes that is a great looking block John. I have started on the second lid finial for bowl/box 2, not sure if I want to call it a box or a lidded bowl yet. This is Mun Ebony. Having a bit of trouble getting it shaped the way I want due to misplacing my 1/4" square scraper (this happens a lot lately due to interruptions from visitors ) but it's closer to what I want than not. August 25, 201213 yr I've got a market tomorrow morning, and they're having all the craft vendors promote their Christmas items so hopefully it will be a good day. Sunday after church I need to get busy cutting ornaments. I cut 4 of the masonic clocks that I showed a couple weeks ago and need to get a finish on them and glue them together. GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/
August 25, 201213 yr No woodworking for me yet as I am still trying to recover from pneumonia. But I have been working on getting my new Rikon 14" bandsaw put together. I got the base cabinet put together and then put the HTC mobile base together to fit. Last night I had 2 of the guys in our home bible study group help me lift the bandsaw body onto the base cabinet and got it all bolted together. So over the weekend I hope to finish putting the cast iron table and fence on the bandsaw and get it completed.Allen WorshamCorona, CAallenworsham@earthlink.nethttp://www.awcreationsandwoodcrafts.com'Graze in every man's field, but always give your own milk' J. August 26, 201213 yr Charles (anyone interested) - first day of show - lots of folks gabbing with me while peddling my way across north Georgia (as in 6 hours on the velocipede).  Sold the 3/4" Red oak Nativity set about 11AM - show started at 10 - just finished the set last week.  This shelf seems to be a good shelf  - put the 14" 3-layer deer scene - sold in 1.5 hours (another one i just finished last week) !!!  Dad gum, now I have to spend some more time making these things again.  13 board feet of oak in each nativity plus all the 1/4" decorative pieces.  Oh, well, will keep me out of the bars and terrorizing Walmart (my wife's saying).  We'll see wha tomorrow brings.Hey, California guys, how's the build going????????????Charles Nicholls said:Good luck Fred!Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRA
