September 20, 201213 yr Sometimes, after a few, I do. Actually, do you folks make project lists or, is that activity just for us older guys who have no more room in our heads? If you do make lists, how often do you follow them? On my list are a couple gun totin' briefcases, a long gun cabinet, some jewelry boxes, a copy carver and a router lathe. Oh, yeah, and several little jobs for the wife. Puzzle frames and a porch swing among them. No telling what else. But those aren't on my list because she'll keep reminding me.What's on your woodworking to do list?Gene 'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' September 20, 201213 yr Lists.... We don't need no stinking lists! LOL. Now that I have that out of my head I don't make lists because I usually do not have more than one live project at a time. It makes life more simple. I do always have at the back of my mind though that I have some kits that still need to be made, sooner or later I'll get to them Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
September 20, 201213 yr I used to make lists until I had to make a list of the lists which I found I'd get distracted by something else that caught my eye and (wait for it) I'd make another list so I gave up. Besides I find that in my job I deal with check lists all night long and therefore lists at home makes it feel to much like work....Well gota go the wife has a list for me to do. I tell you it's a vicious circle, I feal like I'm caught in a Patrick McMannus story!www.thepatriotwoodworker.com Proud Supporter of Homes For Our Troops
September 21, 201213 yr Since I mostly scroll saw, when I'm making stuff to go to craft shows, I take the patterns and put them on a clipboard in the order I want to cut them. Which is the same as a list I guess. If I'm just cutting stuff to stay busy I just look for patterns I want to do, that don't take a list !!!!GregScroll Saw forum hosthttp://www.thesawdustfactoryga.com/
September 21, 201213 yr Gene, List???? God gave us a certain amount of things to get done in our lifetime.... Right now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!!! Â Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum Host
September 21, 201213 yr Gene, I tried a list a year or so ago, but the grand plan lasted about one week and I gave up on it! I still have the list hanging off a clipboard in my shop, gathering sawdust, it was a nice list, my wife and I created it.John MorrisThe Patriot WoodworkerProud Supporter of Wounded Warrior Project and Homes For Our Troops
September 21, 201213 yr I do keep a list, and right now it has a pool cue rack, a shoe box, and a desk on it. This aging thing and the resulting faulty (to be kind) memory problems it brings on makes it necessary. If I didn't have the list I would forget what the next project is.No Ref

September 21, 201213 yr LOL Gene, good thing I didn't have anything in my mouth at the time I read what you said, or I'm afraid my monitor would have hated me Actually, I looked around my shop area (My living room) and found no less than 3 partly finished projects, all waiting on that one special part or piece that is missing so I guess I lied LOL sorry bout that Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks
September 21, 201213 yr Author Charles, Just the opposite! I have some of those "special parts" waiting for the project. Some of those parts have been waiting for years. i.e. about 25 years ago the urge to build music boxes became overwhelming. Consequently, there are 4 music movements sitting in a drawer where they have been for 25 years. As I said earlier, "life gets in the way". Maybe someday??? Using Larry's philosophy though, as long as those parts are waiting, I can't die!Charles Nicholls said: LOL Gene, good thing I didn't have anything in my mouth at the time I read what you said, or I'm afraid my monitor would have hated me Actually, I looked around my shop area (My living room) and found no less than 3 partly finished projects, all waiting on that one special part or piece that is missing so I guess I lied LOL sorry bout that Charles NichollsSite Hostnicholls61@att.netProud supporter of The Wounded Warrior Project, Homes For Our Troops and the NRAhttp://www.etsy.com/shop/nichollswoodworks

When one sheet is full it just pulls up another one.But I LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!!Without the list, I wouldn't have a shop full of tools.John MoodySite AdministratorJohn Moody Woodworkshttp://www.johnmoodywoodworks.com

September 21, 201213 yr Gene, and Charles, I too have several of those special parts/pieces stashed. Most of mine are the hard to find parts for old Delta Specialty Co.  "Old Woodworking Machines". The ones that are normally missing/damaged if you find the machine that they belong to. So I guess I'm ready if I ever run across the machines they belong to.Larry Old Woodworking Machinery Forum HostGene Howe said: Charles, Just the opposite! September 23, 201213 yr There's two problems with my method, the clipboard gets buried under other stuff, or I forget where I put it. Gene Howe said:Fred, I feel your pain. John, Life sometimes gets in the way.Larry, At my work pace, the list wouldn't need to be very long to achieve immortality.Mike, Ever consider Ritilin? :-) I think we may be brothers.Charles and Greg, Ahh, the joys of a singular purpose.....and a good memory. Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' September 23, 201213 yr Gene, the problems with list are that that are always changing. Since I posted my list, it has changed. I've bumped a group of challenge coin displays to the top.Ron DudelstonSite AdministratorAbove and Beyond WoodWorks
