Liz from Woodcraft just notified us we are going to be receiving some pen kits for our turners here on TPW to turn and get them back into Woodcraft for their annual Turn-For-Troops event!!!!!!!

For those are not familiar with the Woodcraft Turn For Troops Event click on the preceding link.

I hope a few of you will volunteer. We will be getting around 50 kits, but I'd like to divide them up on the large side because simply put, we could not afford shipping to 50 members. So with that in mind, I am thinking if we could get maybe 5 or 6 volunteers to handle the turning of these kits? That way I would have only 5 or 6 shipments.

What say you all?

Mike, the standard kit, what the may entail I am not sure as far as bushings are concerned. No blanks, I was going to mill out 50 blanks from the scrap I have to send along unless you guys can handle that portion of it.

I have some blank material. I'll look and see what I have tomorrow when I start my weekend. I know I don't have any burl left. When do these have to be completed and shipped?

Phil if you have a drill press you can turn pens. I turned my first pens on my drill press. The one big draw back is I loved turning them so much I bought a lathe and much more.

If any one is interested I can scare up the plans for the jig. It consists of a block of wood, a cold rolled steel rod for the tool rest and mandrill holder for the drill chuck, a dowel center and a small ball bearing for the live center, and a mandrill shaft which can be purchased from PSI or Craft USA. and a 1/2" roughing gouge. I think the cost of materials for the jig was around $20.00 and the gouge for around $15.00 to $20.00.

I had a nice bench top once, then some ******* broke in my old shop and took it and most of my tools.

Now that's sad phil. I'm sorry to hear that. I detest people that steal because they're too lazy to work or too cheap to buy what they need or want.

Good show Mike! I'll let you know as soon as they get here, I am assuming they'll be in early next week.

I don't think I answered your question about when does Woodcraft need them by and who do you send them to, they will be sent back to Woodcraft from you guys. Due date I 'll have to get that for you. Right now all the Woodcraft folks are at the Ohio WIA so I'll get in touch with them Monday morning.

We still need to know if they provide the bushings with the kits. It would also be good to know what style kits they are sending.
