Friday, December 28th, What's on Your Woodworking Agenda?

Featured Replies

Boy it seems like only a few weeks ago I was starting off the new year of 2012 with a Friday post and here we are the last on of the year. What  a year 2012 has been. The site has grown by and the input by you all is some of the best on the web. The level of projects presented here are top notch. So it is with a happy note we bring to an end the last weekend of 2012 and look forward to the posting of the new year, 2013.

I had quite a good year with my woodworking, as a matter of fact, so good I am still backed up with projects to get completed and out of the shop. My craft show season ended the first of December and doesn't start back to the first of March. Seems like a long time till I look at all the inventory I need to make and I am not sure there will be enough time. Wow!

I hope your year was all you wanted it to be and more whether you were making items and selling them or making items for your home or for you and friends. Maybe you were just working on setting up your shop and your projects included those much needed items in the shop to allow you to make other projects. Whatever the case, I hope you had a great year working in your shop.

And now for the last weekend of the year, I must ask the question, "What is on Your Woodworking Agenda?", I will be working on making more slats for the porch swings and cutting out and getting all the panels glued up for a cedar chest. For me right now that is a pretty ambitious schedule but we will see what happens.

So what are you working on this weekend, shop work, projects for the coming year, HDL, home improvement, packing away the Christmas decorations, or planted firmly in front of the big screen taking in all of the bowl action? We here are TPW always are interested in what is taking place in your shop, so share with our inquiring minds your plans for this last weekend of the year. Post pictures and share the in's and out's of your projects with us, you never know you might just inspire someone else to give it a try.

I'll be watching for those responses so here we go!!!!

I've got some pens to turn for late Christmas gifts that I wasn't able to get out and then a few jewelry boxes for my Granddaughters birthdays coming up soon. I need to get these projects done before my wife goes in for the bone marrow transplant in January. After that I want to spend more time on the scroll saw. I do want to build the patio cart featured on last weeks Woodsmith shop show. Check out the plans at: http://www.woodsmithshop.com/download/610/patio-cart.pdf

I'd also like to build a complimentary cart for my pellet smoker. The design for the patio cart is pretty cool and functional.

I have handles yet to get done, working on handle 2 of 3 now. I have some pens to turn as gifts, and finally a few pens to turn for a few deserving troops. IF and only if I get that all done not only will i be very happy, but I will also work on some small bowls that I have blanks for.

I doubt that I'll get it all done in 2 days but we'll see just how far I do get.

Stay warm and safe people.

I'm going to try and finish assembling the toy box project and finish a microphone storage rack that I'm building for the Church.

My main project is getting the shop (garage) organized so I can find things!

Started yesterday moving tool boxes and things so I can get to the back wall to mount a wood rack. I couldn't believe all the "good" scraps that I have. ;) . Get a few more things done out there and I can get back to the music boxes which will make both of us very happy.

Short term, I'm building stock.  I have absolutely nothing built to sell and it's hard to turn a profit with no stock.  Next year I'd like to expand my inventory so I'm looking for new and different items to perfect and sell.  I'm eagerly anticipating January 7th so I can root my beloved Fighting Irish on to victory over John Moody's Crimson Tide.  Should be a good game.  On a longer basis, we are entering into another (2nd in 10 years) building expansion plan at church.  This one looks to add about 25,000 square feet onto the facility and I'm thinking that us old retired coots will be called on to do some finish work.  It'll be a pleasure to do it too.

Sounds like some great projects guys.

Getting close on the latest handle, a few more minutes of shaping then it's sanding time.

ning-000-0001-02-19254-51.jpg?width=721Here is the same handle rotated left 90 degrees. I was hoping for good color throughout the piece but it all seems a bit one sided :) Hmm sounds like a former relationship I was in LOL.

ning-000-0002-00-19254-51.jpg?width=721That's it from here for now. Stay warm stay safe this weekend :)

I got all the tarps pulled down and put away that were used for converting the garage into a spray booth. I got the 3 folding tables put away as well as got all the rest of the finishing supplies put away. The only thing on my workbench now that the Tea Boxes are out is my spray gun as it is drying out from a good cleaning. I don't have anything specific planned on to make just yet, but I have a lot of things that come to mind. Right now I just got finished boxing up one of the Tea Boxes that is a wedding gift that my wife Tami is now wrapping up with pretty paper. We have to head out to the wedding in about an hour. Tami is off until January 14th so we plan on spending a lot of time together and taking a few day trips locally. She also has some things that she wants to get done around the house while she is off as well. I think that we will just kick back until after the 1st and then go from there. One thing for sure is that we have to get all the Christmas sweets out of the house so we can get back to eating normally as my innards are not real happy without my regular diet. But those cookies were all tasty and worth the tummy rumbles. Tami makes these mint/chocolate cookies that taste just like the Girl Scout Thin Mints. She uses Ritz Crackers and then dips them into some melted baking chocolate that is mixed with peppermint extract. You put a big of those in the freezer and then grab a few every time you walk past the kitchen. She still has a bowl of candied walnuts sitting on the counter as well. I will sure be glad when all those temptations are gone.......but I will miss them as well. :-(

Everyone seems to be busy as beavers.

My plans are to cut all the oak ply for a gun cabinet and, maybe, get some of the solid oak cut. Doesn't sound like much as I write it, but #1, I'm slow, and #2 I'm a bit lazy.

I'm in the same boat with craft inventory John. This weekend starts with a full day at my real job then it's completing a custom sized cutting board, bread serving trays, and gluing up pizza peels for more orders.

Didn't get much done yesterday or today.  Wife is on her future honey do list.  She wants to re-do the kitchen.  Not just tearing out the old and put in the new.  She want to re-arrange the kitchen.  That means new flooring for kitchen and den and hall way.  Also means re-painting the walls.  Went window shopping with her looking at everything except the kitchen sink.  Did get started making 2 more cutting boards for after thought Christmas presents and got them glued and clamp.  Tomorrow I'll sand them and put router back on the old bench router table and routed the edges.   Hopefully I'll get back to working on the router table.

not doing much this week,. just drawing up some planes to make some kind of folding stand to set my dulcimer on when I play it. Also  getting ready to start a blog on building an easy to build dulcimer. Hopeful some of you will give it a try.

Sounds like, for most of us, lazy time is over.  Notice I said "most of us".  I, for one, would like some more lazy dayz.

That being said, I did do some more work on the clock.

WOW, Fred. That is one fine piece of scrolling. Just gorgeous.

I just slid from nearly comatose during Christmas to merely lazy, now. Quite an improvement, no?
