Why not?  The parts are easily replaced, no shipping charges, no electricity when PG&E turn off the electricity.  And, he'll get in really good shape.  One thing you might consider is a stationary bike and use those old web belts as they used to use.

Yeah I read some about that, John  you might want to get started on a solar / wind turbine / go back to candles projects.

There is a whole world of woodworkers working without power, it's wonderful, creative, and beautiful. Jarrod Dahl is one of those woodworkers, creating his turnings by roughing out the blank by hatchet, then turning on a pole lathe, all his creations on his website are done entirely without electricity, something I aspire too.

His wooden ware is done in the Slojd tradition, as all his work is. I hope to be there someday in my journey.

Well with this new regulation and laws pretty soon electrical power is bound to be found to cause cancer in the state of California. Thus it is banned.
