QuoteLargest and most beautiful of the swallow family, the purple martin feeds almost entirely on flying insects and can eat his weight (equal to about 2,000 mosquitoes) in insects daily. These birds are fastidious housekeepers, friendly and have a beautiful song. Over the years they have become sophisticated and no longer use hollow trees and other natural conditions for their homes, but have come to rely on man-made apartment houses.
