Time really seems to have really gotten away from me, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I've been into the forums here, but I'm going to try to get more regular again.
My 12" Delta planer blew a gear and while it was an easy fix I decided to take the opportunity to upgrade to a new one. I really wanted to get a floor model 15" or 20", but at school I really didn't have space for it and I wasn't sure it would fit my doors. And the bigger one would have cost about $1500 and on up.
I ended up getting a Cutech 40200HC-CT 13". This one has the carbide cutters and they call it a spiral cutter head, but it is just the way the cutters are arranged. So far I'm really liking it. The old planer was so loud I wouldn't run it with the kids in the room but this one is much quieter. The finish on the surface coming out is far smoother than the Delta was, most of the wood feels like it doesn't need sanding. Snipe has been minimal, and often I don't notice any at all. The cost on it was about $750 delivered. I bought it off amazon and so far I'm a happy camper.
