A while backbought a tub of "Stuff" That a long haired Kitten we have think THIS is HER bed.... Anyway...Red Circled item is a head to a Brick Layer's Hammer.... Got it all cleaned up...but, it needed a handle to work right...Trip to Menard's, since they are one of the few places that sell replacement Hammer handles...picked out one that was close... Re-shaped to end a bit..with a spokeshave...end USED to be a perfect rectangle..and I needed one a little more Oval.....long time ago, I would be doing this with a piece of glass... Got things fairly close to almost fitting all the way in...a little chisel work to clear a few splinters off....And finished driving the handle down...had to go back a open the sawn slot a bit and trim the wooden wedge for width...drove that in...then drove the 3 Steel wedges in..after I had trimmed the excess handle and wood wedge off the top... I guess that should hold things in place... Weight seems to be around 20 oz or so... I tend to like wood handles on Hammers...easier on my elbows and shoulders...I also add that tape, to help with the grip.. Thinking maybe a coat of Blue paint on the metal head? ala Vaughn
