I finished this a bit different. I used lauan painted black for a backer. The trim is pine with a small cove routed on inner frame, with a larger cove on outside. The actual warrior part is birch 1/4". The pine frame was then torched aka an old chinese method called "sugi ban". It was then finished off with a satin finish. This is a dedication project to the vet center in White Oak , PA. It will be there in May.
